It is frustrating to see the flames where they are at in the standings when you start to consider the value of these players. Lindholm, backlund, Hanifin and tanev could each easily bring in 1st round picks+ in a trade. Shows that the flames have lots of good players. Poor goaltending and a lack of finish have sabotaged what could have been a great team this year. And in a conference that’s wide open for teams to make a run in the west.

This is the catch 22 we're in though.
If the team is that good, they'll just run it back next year and hope for better goaltending. Hopefully introduce Wolf to the mix and go again with this team.
I'd guess this is the plan from management.
And we better hope that's all true, or next year will be even more painful than this one and we'll have wasted the opportunity to gather picks for the deepest draft in ages.

I know we all love Backlund but to me he's the ideal piece to move right now, and although he clearly loves it here, I am sure he'd appreciate a legitimate chance to win within the next two years. We have a guy like Ruzicka sitting in the pressbox who has shown he can produce in top nine minutes.
With retention his return would be incredible based on the current market values we are seeing.
