During Sutter's comments today he said the home record has been up and down. He said "it is not a team thing....it's a player thing". He didn't want to point fingers, but said "you can figure it out".
He isn't talking about Markstrom....he is just as useless on the road as he is at home. Vladar is slightly better on the road.
Just going by points to see who isn't doing well at home, he might be talking about.....
Huberdeau
Hannifin
Toffoli

Jets are on a 97 point pace for the season...their play of late is certainly below that though. I doubt they play nearly .600 hockey the rest of the way.
Same with Seattle
It's going to take a great record for the Flames to make it but it won't take 98. At least one team will fall off

People always say this about dmen that play big minutes...reminds me of Jaybo, Brodie, ect.

They said it in Fla about Weegar and IMO he's been solid here. They used so say it about Letang.
I love Tanev but he plays the same big minutes and has made some big gaffes in his career.

It has to be about goaltending - really it's tough to see anything else where it would make sense from a points perspective.
It's not as clear from just this season but if you look over the longer horizon than just this year with our goalies.
Markstrom:
Home - 82 GP: .904
Away - 63 GP: .912
Vladar:
Home - 14 GP: .881
Away - 32 GP: .907
So both goalies are worse at home than on the road, but Vladar over 2 years as a Flames goalie has been much worse at home than on the road.
Dustin Wolf has a .923 Save Percentage at the Saddledome this season though...just saying.

Yep, when you play big minutes against top players mistakes will happen and stick out
Hanifin is a +9 playing the hardest minutes on a team with 30th place goaltending

They call him old school but I bet he knows these stats, and W-L even moreso, like the back of his hand.
Though last year Markstrom was stellar away from home IIRC. So maybe he's always better away, but this year he's overall worse, and the home/away ratio is the same?

22/23:
Markstrom:
Home - 20 GP: .889
Away - 19 GP: .887
Vladar:
Home - 9 GP: .882
Away - 14 GP: .903
21/22:
Markstrom:
Home - 38 GP: .919
Away - 25 GP: .926
Vladar:
Home - 5 GP: .880
Away - 18 GP: .911
20-21:
Markstrom:
Home- 24 GP: .894
Away- 19 GP: .915
Both goalies have had issues on home ice at times in their Flames careers, and Sutter would know that for sure.

I was just looking at this year's. But Sutter did say today that this home issue has been going on since he got here and players talked to him about it.
You could be right....he just took a silent but violent swipe at his goalies.

Such an odd thing, but then goalies are odd. Maybe on the road they can focus more - it's such a mental position. For sure on the road they now the crowd isn't going to jump on the first goal and start booing. It's probably one of those things that's now in their heads.

We were having this same debate about 3 weeks ago. You said the Flames would get in playing .625 hockey and 95 was a lock for the playoffs. Since, the pace of the 8th place team has gone up not down and the Flames pace has gone from 93 to 90.
Only real positive change is instead of Edmonton and Colorado being the teams closest in the race it's now Winnipeg and Seattle.
Flames need a .659 point % to get 95 now and the 8th team is pacing for 97.
Seattle also has the easiest schedule in the NHL
Winnipeg might be the best bet but hard to say they will fall for sure.
One thing is for sure, there is less games now than 3 weeks ago. Boston and Toronto are our next 2 games too. Can't lose both

Huberdeau isn't doing well at home or the road. It's not his fault there isn't a 3rd option for him though.

i'll try to inject some optimism and say that they are getting both on back ends of b2b so anything is possible

You just know the Flames could beat Boston, then Toronto, add depth at the deadline, lose a ton and then as soon as they’re mathematically eliminated go on a tear to end the season keeping that 9th spot burning.

We’ve seen this blame the goalie stuff before. For me, it all works or it doesn’t. When the defence started giving up multiple glorious chance’s every game early on the goalies couldn’t hold the line and now it’s a vicious circle. I blame the forwards and the defence for both goalies struggling now and like I said now it’s a vicious circle. That’s just the way I see it. Only way out it seems , is a fresh start next year.

I still don't think the 8th place team has 97 when all is said and done

5/8 west teams last season had 100 plus points and LA had 99 Dallas 98. 7/8 almost had 100 plus.
97 seems like what it will take to squeak in.
Just doesn't seem like a realistic total for this group this season.
Markstrom probably contributed to 6-8 lost points
