Coaching system is fine. Players are also buying in because execution of the game plan is mostly fine. Goaltending shaky and goals against rattle the team in general more then they should.
22 games since Jan 1.
Points in 14 of those.
2-5 in OT in that time and 3 of those 5 OT losses shouldn't have gone to OT (Vegas, Sens and St. L, maybe even Chicago as well) because the Flames were in control but didn't get rewarded for the dominant performance they had. Toss in a Flyers regulation loss that defies logic and same with one of the Detroit games as well.
That's at least 5 more points, very easily, and as many as 9. Moreso then the points, winning the Flyers game, and Sens game looked in the bag but losing that gives the confidence a shake for the next time, and we are seeing that snowball effect now. Team confidence would be at another level or two higher than it is and you wouldn't see those collapses against Vegas occur (and Phoenix they proved they can push back when down) and then a setback vs a good Avs team wouldnt be as dire as it seems.
So, it's some killer instinct and execution. Sutter's game plan seems to be fine and buy in from players for the most part is there. Clanging of posts and not burying the opportunities they have generated is the critical part that is missing and below average goaltending and the timing of the below average goaltended is mentally draining this team and it's confidence slowly but surely.

Holy frik. As soon as you trad Hanifin you are looking for a Hanifin. He is just entering what will be his prime years for a D.

After this game, Calgary sits 15th in GF, 18th in GA, 2nd in shots allowed, and 5th in the Pacific.
They’ve had 62 games of sub-.900 goaltending.
The Carolina Hurricanes, the only team allowing fewer shots than Calgary, have received 58 games of .905-.913 goaltending from three guys, the best of whom isn’t even in the NHL at the moment.
They’re 2nd in GA, 11th in GF, and 1st in the Metro.
1 guy is having a PPG season for Carolina. And he probably wouldn’t be doing that well if his goalies were 8-10% worse.
It hasn’t worked, but for a very specific reason that isn’t Sutter and isn’t Huberdeau.

This is an excellent team that is just under-performing.
Just looking at the sheer volume of shots they generate proves this.
They shouldnt trade anyone, if anything what they need to do is add some veteran grinders to bring grit and playoff experience.
I could see a coaching change being needed, but not on the bench, bring in Braithwaite and Kidd as Goalie coaches and this team is on it's way to the Cup!
Make those small changes and you can plan the Parade. Book it!

It's a trend when you can't win the games some of it luck some of it is who this team is.
Wasted opportunities with the puck and not being creative enough to create more high danger chances and finish.
That is a coaching problem when you watch them whip useless shots on net to pump possession metrics and not hold pucks and try to make the extra play you know they are coached to put volume on net and not quality.
Look at how the Avs attacked us with speed and 3 guys skating in a line to create cross ice chances.
Darryl is coaching a safe brand of hockey in a league that is faster and has waves of offence attacking.
The power play is coached to play a slow plodding safe style as well

GAA is a team stat.
Go look at the top 50 goalie save percentages and see how many guys you wouldn’t want starting for you on a nightly basis in their primes.
There are certainly a handful, but I would say max 7.

Ahh, OK. In that case there are 14. It’s a weird stat though. You have Hiller at #27 all time. Bernier at 38, Cory Schneider at 11.
Patrick Roy at 56, tied with Jakob Markstrom
