Feels like a weird move. I understand why Dallas might want Dadonov but seems odd for Montreal.

Montreal hoping Gurianov can have a Nichushkin type revival away from Dallas

Yeah I suppose. Still feels like Montreal could have received a pick or something here too. Gurianov an RFA, they're still rebuilding, I don't know. Just weird to me.

I watched the Dallas broadcast the other day and they've really soured on Gurianov. I suspect they would have moved him for anything in the off season, but are happy to pick up Dadonov who will definitely put up a few goals for them.

They save money now and next year as well unless they were planning to just let Gurianov go for nothing, and they're probably a better team overall because of it. Pretty shrewd move.

Gurianov fits better in MTL I think with that young group. Room to breathe. Will be a nice little try out for him for the rest of the year.

I would have made a similar move from our perspective. Gurianov has upside. Dadonov does not.

Gurianov is a weird player for sure. Can't say as I've seen him much this year but he's someone who one game can be the best player on the ice and the next game he's out there floating doing his best Jokinen impression.

Who is the Flames' equivalent of Dadonov?

I certainly wouldn't trade Coleman for Gurianov.
Gross.

Dadonov had 5 straight years of 20 goal pace before this.

Weird career. Brief stints in FLA in his early 20s, and then returned to the Panthers at age 28. Only made it to the COVID play-in round. Then cashed in to a bad OTT team. But then it must have seemed like he hit the jackpot taking his big salary years to low-tax VGK...until that team struggled and tried to ship him out to a high-tax bad-team. He dodged that bullet and then got traded to an even higher-tax bad-team.

He's still never played a real playoff game...with his rollercoaster career I wonder if he'll get hurt or something before April.

Dadonov was not good in Ottawa, was merely ok in Vegas, and has struggled in Montreal. He only has 4 goals this season.

It's a gamble for both teams. Montreal gets a younger player who has shown signs before, and Dallas gets a vet with a history of production, but not so much recently.
