Would love to see Huberdeau, Kadri, and Weegar under a different coach. Get a new voice in that room. And try to replace Markstrom over the summer.

Different mentalities for sure though. Mackinnon took some time to get it together. Tkachuk has time.

Does the coach control the consistency of individual effort?

Not much to say that hasn’t been said today or at any point this season. The thought of having the players we have under contract for the next 8 years makes me want to vomit.
Absolutely nothing to be happy about with this team right now. Nothing to be excited about. No future to look forward to. No blue chip prospects in the pipeline. The entire organization is absolutely devoid of excitement right now (except Wolf, but I’m of the opinion he should not be rushed into the NHL right now).

It really seems like better run organizations would not wait to act on players like Lindholm, Hanifin, and Toffoli, before entering the last year of their contracts, rather than re-sign them well into their 30s or let them walk for nothing.
Time is a flat circle for this franchise. We've seen this all before.

The Flames save percentage today is .887 (league average is .900)
You have to go back to 92-93 to find a Flames save percentage lower than that at .886 (league average was .883). 30 years ago, and Mike Vernon and Jeff Reese were in goal.
Honorable mention to 12-13 when they put up a .889 when league average was .909 (Kipper and MacDonald) and 96-97 when they put up a .889 when league average was .904 (Tabaracci, Roloson, Moss)

He can certainly influence it. Particularly if the players aren't on the same wavelength.

Lindholm I'd like to move - but don't think it would sit well around the league to move a guy who is seen as a core piece, with 1 year left on his deal, 10 days after his wife had a baby. That one can be an offseason decision.
Toffoli, Zadorov, and Tanev should be on the market for sure though.
Hanifin they should be having an honest contract discussion and move him if think its going to cost more than $7M.
Backlund it would be up to him - he earned that.

I thought he was completely nuts when he took over, but after listening to him on Frank Seravalli’s podcast I think teams could learn a thing or two from Tom Dundon and how he’s been running the Hurricanes since he took over.
He hires good coaches and good GM’s and trusts them. If the players aren’t working out or want too much money they aren’t afraid to shuffle them out.
He also made some comments about advice other owners gave him (about firing coaches and GM’s) and thought it was garbage.
I’d love to see the Flames emulate what they do. Carolina likely wouldn’t have signed Huberdeau to that contract before he played a single game for them.

Ship out Hanifin. No need for contract talks.
Don't think he's a defenseman you win with
He looks good mid season but soon as the game importance ramps up down the stretch/in playoffs his decision making falls off a cliff

Backlund is one thing, but I have no attachment to any other players in that regard.
I simply don't think any of them will be worth their new contracts more than a couple years into them, and we all know I think they won't be competing for the Cup while this is our core group anyway.
It won't happen, but it's time for this organization to make moves that it never has in the past.

They officially have to win 7 out of 10 to get in. So 16-6.
Magic number is 21 for Minnesota.
There’s no way this goaltending is going 16-6
