How did they fail? People don’t have to do what you want them to do.

Personally I prefer when people don’t shy away from calling out BS whenever and wherever it pops up. Need more of that everywhere nowadays not less, especially on social media.

It’s my opinion. Excited to see some evidence that calling out BS online has a measurable impact if I’ve said something you think isn’t true, but people do it all the time and people also complain constantly about how social media is getting worse, so I have some doubts.

I think the optimal play would be to disprove Yoho's misinformation without quoting him or even directly referencing his drivel.

In this case it would be to post a couple CBC articles and comment on them to advance the discussion about the topic.

Yeah, that's probably best. Like the other day when Yoho posted something and proudly proclaimed that the corrupt CBC won't cover it. A poster without addressing Yoho in an antagonizing way, simply posted about 6 links of CBC covering it and the discussion was not lost to a million posters calling out and angrily refuting Yoho.

It took away the divisive back and forth that gets things off track in political threads every time misinformation is posted, but still showed the general posters that what he said was obviously wrong, so that no posters on CP saw what Yoho said and figured it was true.

There should be a version of Snopes that just fact-checks whether CBC covered something or not, and appends a note to any posts that suggest otherwise.

CP: Canada's capital is Ottawa



Yoho makes a statement linking an incorrect article or misunderstanding the article. CP corrects. Yoho never reengages on that post.

BoLevi was a troll. Yoho, could very well be a well meaning but not the brightest poster.

I like to think Yoho's echo chamber says X, they come here say X, CP then corrects to Y, and they go "hrmm by gawd you're right" so there's no followup. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Oh the optimists way to view the internet. Honestly I'm with you that I wish it would be true, but Yoho has posted an article, had it refuted, then the next page post the exact same article again. There is no learning going on, just an attempt to spread the misinformation.

But I think this is good for the board, at least until people start yelling about it. This is seriously how a large segment of our population thinks and absorbs information these days. He is posting articles that have a pretty big spread outside of CP. I wish there wasn't a dozen posts complaining about it, but I have found the discussion and the refuting replies good so that I have the information to bring back to my friends and relatives who spout the same stuff as him.
