There isn't a single whisper of a rumor of them selling off guys that have term remaining.

And they don't have any pending UFAs worth anything.
So sell what?

Nothing that happens in the next handful of games is going to cause the team to move guys like Lindholm, Toffoli, Hanifin, etc. If that happens, it'll be in the summer.

But go ahead and root against the team you "cheer" for.

Tre also pretty much said we have nothing of value to sell in a rental market.

Highly doubt teams are calling him up trying to get our guys in expiring deals.

I can dream that the Flames will do the right thing and cash on some of these players you mentioned while they are having good seasons and their value is high.

I think guys like Toffoli, Backlund, Lindholm, Hanifin will bring an absolute haul given the arms race we have been recently seeing in the NHL. There will be teams who want to stay on par with NYR, Toronto, Boston.

At the very least, at this point, I want a Top 10 pick.

None of those team trying to keep up with NYR, Toronto, or Boston have anything near a top 10 pick. Thinking we can benefit by being sellers this season is flawed logic.

How?

16 teams have fewer points than Calgary does right now...those teams arent going to go roaring past the Flames.

Besides...the Flames are much closer to the playoffs than any sort of decent draft position.

On top of which, trade deadline is not when guys with term left fetch the highest return, that happens in the summer when teams have room and/or can make separate deals to fit others in.

Welcome to the real world.....cheering against the Flames accomplishes nothing you seem to think "helps" the team.

How are you going to get a top 10 pick from anyone in the playoff race?

No, I just want the Flames to lose enough so they can get there. Sorry for the confusion.

If the Flames traded Toffoli, Backlund, Hanifin, or Lindholm they'll suck even worse and drop in the standings. They can get assets and a better pick.

Right? Did no one see Arizona play the other night? Or watch Columbus when Gaudreau was in town? Unless the Flames actually won the lottery (which no marginal lottery team ever did before) they will pick in about the same sphere POs or no.

What’s wrong with cheering for a better pick. It’s still a fan move to cheer for the long term then just look at the immediate short term.

The judgement on here for how a fan should behave and what cheering etiquette’s are is getting a bit much. Most people on here love the team, and are passionate about it. That can mean cheering for some short term pain if they feel it might result in long term gain….

Right - that is why I am hoping for a Top 10 pick instead of a Top 5 pick. Which if games in hand go against the Flames, they could be looking at a Top 12 pick very soon.

Again...almost impossible for that too happen.

Im old school and I get that, but anyone who actively cheers against a team they claim to be "fans" of....is in no way, shape or form a "fan" of said team.

That's your opinion and I understand.

On a hockey forum, people will have different opinions.

Agree to disagree.

Whats wrong with cheering for the team you claim to be a fan of too......you know....win the game and put themselves much closer to making the playoffs?

That makes perfect sense.

Cheering against? Makes no sense.

You know who else is cheering for Calgary to lose?

Oiler fans.

No one is cheering "against" the team, they are cheering FOR the team to have the best possible outcome on the season.

There are really only two strong possible outcomes:

A deep playoff run (WCF or better)
A high draft pick

Cheering for the team to win a battle (one game among 82) even if they lose the war (the classic Flames first round out or barely missing the playoffs) is valid, but it's myopic. You're welcome to revel in your myopia, but it's ####ty of you to hold your own position as the only position representative of being a fan.

To each their own. I’m not saying you shouldn’t cheer with a short term only view. Whatever floats your boat.

Just don’t think others that might be cheering for more long term results for the franchise aren’t as good a fan as you.

Ah...this forum must be a microcosm of the Flames team and the locker room. Forget the game...let's argue!

What it is to be a Flames fan these days.

(Speaking of flames ... we were witness to a massive house fire last night at Genoa Bay on Cowichan Bay...truly an awesomely awful thing to watch.)

Flames however could move a player like Trevor Lewis, he is likely worth a draft pick.

They have options.

My favourite is arguments about what real or true fans are.

Like a bunch of grown men who follow the team religiously and post on CP for decades need to still justify their statuses as fans to each other.

Flames are 3 points away from the final wildcard and 5 points away from 23 overall.

It’s not that far fetched. Let’s be honest, all the flames need to do to drop in the standings is play markstrom and shutdown tanev for every game of the season.
