I would like to re-sign him to a 2 year/$5M contract and have him anchor the second line, possibly the first.

I fully admit that Looch has had his share of bad games, but I still see his value to the team (any team, in fact). I'll always have a spot for guys like Looch in my lineup.

Guy plays 90% of his games like he’s out for a Sunday skate trying not to get hurt

Would have been team’s mvp if they were going for Bedard

I could see it too. His family is probably fairly well settled/acclimatized to alberta by now.

And given his usage long after his best before date, obviously the Flames are still crazy about him.

Lucic has negative value, and likely has no place in Boston’s lineup.

Yeah I really think he would be more effective with occasional nights off.

Lucic's contract is terrible (especially for the Oilers ), but his performance is honestly the least of the team's worries this year.

Or maybe perhaps we’re shipping him to Boston for their cup run.

I don’t see him back here. Too slow, he doesn’t fight anymore, just a liability on the ice. If he does re-sign with us I echo the “league minimum” statements already said here, and he better be our 13th/14th forward.
In what world would Boston think Lucic helps them win?

He can’t help a bubble team.

There's guys in the league that could play the same kind of role that Looch does, keep Sutter happy, but can also keep up to the pace of the game. Austin Watson comes to mind-big and tough, but can skate.

Lucic is not the biggest problem with the Flames but is symptomatic of the biggest problem with the Flames. This is an organization that just loves its well-past-the-expiration-date veterans and goes out of their way to make room for them, many times at the expense of young players who have potential to perform at the same level, or much better, granted a chance. This is the mindset of the club and it has been this way for decades. Add in a coach who is also well past his expiration date and you have a recipe for mediocrity.

Lucic is arguably the worst player on the team and one of the worst in the league. There is nothing he does at anything but bottom of the barrel level. He's supposed to be this big intimidating presence, but he rarely answers the bell when required. For a team fighting for its life you would think he would be looking to set the tone and change some momentum when required. Unfortunately he has turned into a wilting violet who just blends into the boards like the rest of the rest of the team and doesn't make a difference. The game has passed Lucic by. Time to retire.

It will always be perplexing to me that Treliving refused to pay anything more than "market value" for guys like Gaudreau and Tkachuk which resulted in them signing contracts for less than the 8 year term limit, but on the other hand was perfectly fine carrying Lucic's dead cap hit of $5 million for years.

I still believe just buying out Neal would have served the Flames needs better in the short term and the long run.

How much longer do the Oilers have to pay for Neal's buy out?

next two years when the Oilers are paying Neal 2M and the Flames are playing Lucic ZERO you might be singing a different tune

and "perfectly fine" is a stretch

Oh but they don't have to pay for Lucic anymore, that must be a plus.
