Go to Cap Friendly. Set up a team for next year. Can't add anyone without subtracting a contract. Or more depending on the add

I think it would be fair to assume that there are going to be some hockey trades to be made as well to alter the existing group that will change the cap situation.
Yes, but that extra space allowed the Flames to sign the Huby and Weegar extensions, which come into effect next season. There’s nothing left after those extensions.

Too bad about the salary situation, this could be a Huselius-type reclamation. I’ve always liked Kap.

Which is fine. Given the results so far this season, I expect there to be some players leaving and others coming in. There is no way they should go with the same roster next season.

Encountered him and a bunch of the Pens (including Sid) drinking at a Vancouver bar once.
Kapanen was the most obnoxious dickhead in the whole place. Bumping into people, pulling the don't you know who I am type crap.
I know that's just 1 night but I'd want him no where near the Flames based in it.

I thought I read we had like $4m for the deadline? I don't have any numbers to back this up LOL.

If we could swap those players and get a pick back, it might be worth buying out Kapanen in the offseason?

I wish.

Claim the first one, doesn't matter the goalie - there's probably a 60/40 chance you get better goaltending

Would fill a need on RW. Like others have said, I would expect (and hope for) some roster churn in the offseason because this collection of players ain't it. Hard to know what that will mean for the cap.

Always have wanted Kapanen on the Flames. Speed, Right shot. Happens to have a really good shot too. Don't know what's happened in Pittsburgh but I'd take a flyer on him.

Is Kapanen better than any of Dube, Toffoli, Pelletier, Huberdeau, Mangiapane, or Coleman? I don't see more than a marginal upgrade... At the same time $3.2M is too much to keep on the 4th line next season.

Kapanen is only 26 too. Not exactly a spring chicken, but it would be nice to get a bit younger.

I think Kapanen could be around a 50-pt winger, plus-only two of the players you mentioned are right-shot right-wingers.

All the players I mentioned are wingers signed for next season that deserve a top 9 spot in my opinion. Kapanen probably could be a 50-pt winger on a team like the Panthers. I don't see it happening on the Flames.

Here's the PPG this season for all our wingers and Kapanen:
Toffoli 0.86
Huberdeau 0.70
Dube 0.63
Mangiapane 0.54
Ruzicka 0.49
Coleman 0.47
Kapanen 0.47
Pelletier 0.46
Duehr 0.40

Now Kapanen could turn into a 50pt winger, but so could Pelletier, or Ruzicka at some point... The question is who gets the opportunity, or who do you move out?

I agree with you, except I don't think Sutter shares our positive opinion when it comes to Ruzicka. Not sure what's going to happen with him.

He did well in Toronto played well for a contact and faded out last few seasons. Lots of talent on the pens strange he fell off.

True, but he put up 30pts in 40 games, just 2 years ago with the Pens, and like I said- 20 pts in 43 games this year on the third line, and in the doghouse.

He's also very fast 1 year left not a high cap hit

If Tree could move out guys like Lewis, Ritchie or even Gilbert to a team that is looking to make a run this year maybe it makes sense.

There is a RHS rookie waiting in the wings for a top six role possibly next year too...

All moot anyway, I'm sure some other team claims him first.
