These kind of trades end up having a way bigger impact on playoff success than big name free agents...

It’s not just expiring players that get traded. Look back one year ago when we paid a premium for Toffoli, who was on a very reasonable deal just like Lindy and Hanifin.

Players with term are rarely traded at the deadline. Don’t get your hopes up.

Wasn’t Zboril taken with the Dougie Hamilton traded pick? Could’ve been Barzal Chabot or Connor…

What's crazy is that Boston is still this good despite wiffing so bad on that draft. Imagine them with Barzal, Chabot, or Connor.

Just because you sell doesn't mean you have to rebuild. Orlov also averages 23 mins a night. That would be like saying trading Tanev is nothing

Okay, but then what does that accomplish in terms of having Huberdeau, Kadri, Markstrom, Mangiapane, Coleman, Weegar and Andersson all signed to big money, long-term deals?
The Flames can and should certainly try to make hockey deals ahead of next season, but that isn't really done at the deadline. The draft and summer is where this will happen and really is where you will maximize return on non rentals.

Good trade for Washington.
They were going to lose both and capitalized on a solid market.

and the poster you quoted wants the team to move Lindholm and Hanifin. Yeah, like those things are the same. Because EVERY team likes to trade their 20-something stars who still have another year on sweet deals.

I think it shows how much of a crap shoot the draft can be even in the first round.

No, they shouldn’t try to make hockey deals. They don’t have the players to win in this league. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can begin fixing that.
Any team built on the players you noted is not a contender.
