When your team is leading the league in losses by one goal maybe it's not ideal to continue to run a 4th line that gets outplayed and outscored on a nightly basis.
When your team is having a disappointing year it may be best to focus on the best players not getting it done, and not the fourth line.

Honestly IMO it's a bit of both.

If you focus on only the top players playing bad that is how you move good players and sell low. When really what they needed was more help.

I don't think Lindholm, Toffoli, Kadri, Backlund, Andersson, Weegar, Hanifin, Tanev etc are to blame for the issues this year.

Could they be better - sure.

Are they the problem - nope.

If you have to pinpoint a problem to me it's 4 things:

Markstrom
Huberdeau
Lucic (even though it's expected he's bad. it's his cap hit is what prevents the team from having another top 9 forward).
Sutter (lack of adjustments and to me he wears the bad PP)

But it also doesn't mean that the 4th line is free of blame. That's generally the easiest area to make improvements that could trickle to the rest of the lineup and help the overall performance.

Well Lucic's cap hit was to offset the Neil mistake he was never evaluated on a dollar basis when coming in.

It's Huberdeau and Markstrom, and maybe a bit of Mangiapane.

That's 97% of the season in my books.

A night of Ruzicka whisping around the ice like a ghost vs Lucic (who isn't playing well either, don't get me wrong) won't move the needle.

I like in Duehr in for Ritchie though. Love that speed.

Only two everyday forwards on this roster have a negative goal differential at five on five. Care to guess whom they are? Lucic specifically is a real detriment. They are absolutely apart of the problem. They are not getting it done, and these so called "intangibles" they provide certainly aren't helping the team. These are the veterans brought in and relied upon to help inspire this team and breed a "winning" culture. Not only do their respective on ice results indicate they are doing a poor job of that - but the team's record as a whole speaks volumes to that as well.

Why exactly should they not be held accountable? They are at the forefront of the leadership group here.

Yup. Mangiapane has been a significant disappointment this season. He's been playing better of late but isn't burying his chances.

Hope we hang a -5 on Jusso tonight. In a win, to be clear.

Also my 44th…
Does that make it the 88th round?

I was with you until the shootout part.

The Flames never get past 3 on 3 to the shootout.

It would be pretty awesome to watch a game in such a small arena though.
