Maybe Dreger is stuck in the Burke-truculence era. In that era Anderson would’ve been a Flame and a first liner.
Right now he barely would make our 4th line.

Dreger has no Calgary knowledge, so to get each team in Canada tuning in/clicking, he has to say something about Calgary. Goes to the Josh Anderson well as it was probably a legit rumour in the past....rinse and repeat.

The blues are spending huge money on an old and average defense core. Even with the trades they have made they don't have tons of space to re-sign Meier.
But trading the late firsts for Meier isn't bad idea.

Friedman had started beating the Meier to STL drum a few days ago suggesting they could be in on Chychrun too and that this tear down would just provide the capital for a quick retool.

Gavrikov is a UFA, our guys could fetch that next year but its harder to make some trades now because of the cap being so tight and so many of our guys having an additional year

If I'm a buyer, I make the trade for Timo Meier and then try and orchestrate a sign and trade at the draft to recoup some picks.

Exactly what I was thinking. I wouldn't say i watch gavrikov regularly, but I have seen a little. Seems like a safe pair of hands on the blueline on a weak team, but I would be so choked if my team used a 1st on that.
