This.
How many more coaches should Tre have? A billion more?
Sutter JUST turned a team that couldn't make the weak Canadian Division the previous season, into one of the top teams last year, and earned the team it's second playoff series win in 17 years.
The only thing that hasn't changed in the past decade is the GM. Maybe that's what should change next since everything else has been done beneath that level.

If this coach doesn't work out so close to an extension, it's gotta be a full sweep of the front office. You can only hire and fire so many coaches as a GM. I think Treliving is at his limit.

To use your analogy, if the coffee table has a design flaw that causes you to kick it more often than a table that's well designed, doesn't it make sense to get rid of the poorly designed table?

Well Sutter was the coach of the weak team that could not make it out of the Canadian division.

Yeah it is certainly not just the coach, but there's no simple solution.
Roster-wise:
Centre: Lindholm, Kadri, Backlund - that's solid depth, but it's still not as good as recent Cup Champions or elite teams in the league. So, not good enough.
Left Wing: This is probably our best position...if Huberdeau had come as advertised and had Mangiapane continued to develop. Neither has happened.
Right Wing: Tyler Toffoli and then a bunch of "meh"
LHD: No elite players, poor depth
RHD: Pretty good depth, I'd say with the way Huberdeau is playing RHD is our strongest position.
Goalie: Terrible.
Coach: Can't turn the assortment of mediocre players into magic, so...yeah. Shame on him for not being a wizard.
I just don't see any component of this team as being Championship quality outside of the RHD position.
I am absolutely not a fan of Sutter this season, but firing that guy isn't going to fix anything.

I'm confused is this post is in support of Sutter or dismissive of his results.
Losing those 3 key contributors at no fault of his own and having to scramble with a the cards he has this season is exactly why he shouldn't carry most of the blame (he should get some).

If the table just won table of the year and is going to the table hall of fame, it's not a design flaw.

I don’t think Darryl is the right coach for this team, but firing him isn’t gonna do much. There’s much deeper problems with the Flames org than him

Okay, you had me chuckle at "table of the year". The analogy is kind of falling apart now.
A table "hall of fame" is likely a museum. Just saying.

For people who think coaching hasn't been an issue with the Flames over the last decade, I'd say take a look at what those fired coaches have done since leaving.
You can't use a decade of uselessness under bargain bin "never was" coaches as a reason to keep Sutter now. Evaluating Sutter is 100% based on his performance during his current tenure as Flames coach, which has been pretty up and down.
There are valid reasons to defend Sutter and valid reasons to criticize him. Neither one has anything to do with the previous decade of cheap coaching hires.

Agree with this. If he was going to be extended it would be done by now.

If Treliving and Sutter are let go, the replacements will be Conroy and Travis Green

I'll go with no, the Flames wouldn't make the playoffs if they fired Sutter today, since the team's issues around not winning enough games is due to the players and not Sutter's coaching.

I just listened to the barn burner podcast yesterday, loved warreners thoughts.
Not saying sutter has been great this year, but firing him isn’t really the silver bullet solution…

So who is out there that is a better coach? Trotz?
I think you have to write off this season as a bunch of guys having sub-par years and hopefully they bounce back next year.
If the team os floundering at Christmas, then clean house - or, you could do it another way

Well 6 of the 10 coaches who have their teams in the playoffs are coaches who never coached in the NHL before their current team hired them, so I suspect it is even possible to find coaches who have not coached in the NHL before.
