Sounds like even a 20-30 pick in this years draft is as good as most years 10-15 though. Stacked 1st and 2nd rounds.

Even after this, they can still add nearly $10 million in cap hit at the deadline. This shouldn't hamper their ability to make moves at the deadline if they want.

Whoa, that's a nice move for Trana. ROR may not be the same player he was at 27 years old when he won it all but he is still a gamer. A move like this has to give him a second wind.

Didn't Feaster sign O'Reilly to some doomed offer sheet or something?

I forget the details, just that Feaster almost made a horrendous move and got bailed out iirc

Curious what backlund would fetch. Obviously he didn't have the peak or the hardware of oreilly but he feels loke the better player right now.

I like the move for St. Louis in that they realized what they are and didn't get caught up in nostalgia and keeping him. ROR this year seems to be off. Toronto is banking on a resurgence from him, which they're right to do. The 1st likely to be 22+ish isn't bad even in a year like this, if ROR performs like his usual self. Pretty good gamble by Dubas.

Now really hoping Calgary starts that rebuild they should have started in the off-season.

Yup. This is am example of good management. Unfortunately not something the Flames ever do

I've always had a soft spot for the Leafs. This is a good deal for them and will really pay off when it matters, having 3 top players at center.

Sober second thought. Its an overpay. Doesn't address their core needs headed for a series against Tampa. Probably won't hurt them in the short term or wreck their room etc unless the bottom 6 is tight cause someone else is getting moved or bumped.

7pts back with 3 teams to jump. And they had a bunch of pending UFAs. It's the obvious move.

That said, I'm not convinced the Flames would do it

As someone who also cheers for the Leafs, this looks like a big overpay to me. ROR lives more on his reputation than what he brings to the game at the moment in my opinion. I guess he has leadership and experience? I don’t know. I don’t love the trade.

Great trade for the Leafs. Their window is now .

RoR is exactly the type of player the leafs have missed in the playoffs in past years

Who cares if it was an extra 2nd overpay to get the player you want

I'm not. I'm looking forward to it being Foligno part Deux.
