Default Tim Peel and hockey dads need to chill

I can't believe the behaviour of some parents. It's not just hockey, but hockey seems to have more than its share of over zealous parents. Co-Coaches Jamal Meyers and Matt Lashoff screaming at teenage refs in front of their 10 year old players. And Tim Peel besting in on the ref's room and going after these refs after they ejected the former NHLers. What is wrong with them.

Quote:
“And he goes, ‘Do you know who the f— I am? You sit down and respect me. I have a couple questions.’ And he just berated us. He stood in front of that door for 20 minutes.

Quote:
McGlynn said he reached for his phone to call 911 but felt “cornered” and started recording a video of Peel instead — and that, McGlynn said, is when Peel’s demeanor changed.

Quote:
“(Peel) was like, ‘I’ve seen your records and you guys have never attended the Tim Peel ref camp,’” Boren said.

Tim Peel seems like a blowhard who is way too proud of himself. Pretty sure he is the guy that was "retired" after he got caught on the mic bragging about looking to give someone a penalty.

Yikes tim peel. You are a disgrace. He tried to become an insider last year but it turns out he's just Evander Kane's friend. Checks out.

Tim Peels School for kids who can't ref good and want to learn to do other stuff not good too.

What a putz, of all refs to try and high road someone it's pretty funny it was the NHLs biggest joke of a ref in the last 10 years. Bozo.

I'm curious as to what Jamal Meyers did to get ejected.

I was going to mention something. Mayers is held up as a role model for youth by both the league and the St. Louis organization. Add in his high profile as a media commentator. Not a good look, and I hope he addresses this publicly.

As a ref, coaches and parents, please stop yelling at us. Especially if the referee is younger. It's kids playing hockey. It's not serious. I'm almost 30, so I can handle it, but the amount of young officials I've seen that get dejected because some donkey coach is screaming at them over a tripping call is ridiculous. Only 1/3rd of first year referees come back for a second year. If you have a concern with a referee, call him over, step down from the bench, and talk to him in a respectful way.

Your job isn't to yell and berate us, it's to set lines and manage your bench. You are just as responsible, if not more-so, for keeping the games under control. Your kids don't follow my example, they follow you. If you get pissed off over a missed call, they do. If you remain calm, they remain calm. Referees are human, and they're going to miss calls. Most of us don't do it as a career. We don't get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do this like NHL referees do. We do it for fun, spare change, and to stay involved in the game we all love.

This idea that referees are responsible for keeping hockey games under control is complete and total nonsense. It's on the coaches. Full stop.

It's truly embarrassing how adults act over minor hockey. The kids rarely complain. It's the 40 year old losers behind the bench that get pissed off the most. You ruin the game for the refs and your kids.

As a referee, Tim Peel should know this. What a joke he is.

It’s in the article. He was being a dbag to the same refs during the game. He at least left without incident when ejected.

Ha, really?

His story is awesome.

Memed on for years for being the worst ref in the NHL, then gets fired for admitting to game management on a hot microphone

When the parents ship has sailed at being a pro-anything they take to living through their child/children

Making their child shine and be exceptional to prove their genes are special, or whatever. It's still a vanity project of sorts that is ultimately about them

That's my theory at least on over zealous hockey dads. I think it's pretty toxic and probably the child's feelings are not taken into consideration, which is harmful to them.

I don't really get the ex-nhler coaches flying off the handle at teen refs. You think those guys would be above that and know better. Maybe haven't eased off their competitive spirit from the pro days?

Don't bust an artery gents, it's still just a game..

I reffed all through my teens and was even part of a WHL mentor ship program but things like this made me quit. Could get a similar hourly rate working elsewhere without the abuse from coaches, fans, and even senior officials.

Ref camps are a waste of time and money.

Unless you've had a cup of coffee in the NHL, your chances of working your way to the show are somewhere between zero and negative infinity.

Thats a bit too broad. Definitely some #######s. But good teammates and a great coach are ingredients for memorable times when you are young.
