There is no way this team is shifting to rebuild between now and next season. Give that dream up. They are locked in a ton of huge long term contracts signed.
Maybe they fire Sutter to appease the new core?
Maybe they make a huge trade with some of their new core that is not working?
Tearing the team down to start over is a fantasy that won’t happen this year or next.

This is an ownership problem, not a Treliving problem. The way this team goes about its business has been mostly the same since the 2005 lockout. The only time the rebuilt, which according to some they didn’t at all, was when their hand was forced and they went into it kicking and screaming. They also got out of it as soon as they possibly could.
This organizational direction was established long before Treliving came along. If you going to cast blame, at least know where it belongs.

If the Flames need to make an upgrade at the trade deadline, they do have a chip there they could potentially move."

Hate this argument.
Let ‘someone else’ try.
If the Flames move on from Treliving, they better have a better option than ‘someone else’.

Is that chip Markstrom ?
Zero interest in moving Vladar or Wolf.

Wondering if we can do a boat anchor for boat anchor type of deal. Do it with some team that needs experienced goaltending for a couple more seasons and we get an organizational need that might have some juice left (or at least a soon-to-expire contract).
I mean at this point I'd probably do something like Zaitsev for Markstrom. Maybe Ottawa needs a goaltender like that instead of two rookies, and we could get a plug defenseman that is expiring sooner.
I have no idea, I'm just musing. Obviously money needs to be swapped.

Why?
He has proven to be able to make shrewd trades and under his guidance drafting and development has been the best since the Fletcher era.
I say give him the keys and let him do a full rebuild opposed to cutting it short like they did in 2015.

This.
Ideally speaking it would be for a struggling RWer though.
Can't think of any off the top of my head in a similar situation though with the team needing help in net.

I would much rather hope Markstrom rebounds than trade him for a cap dump.
Goalies are up and down and right now ours is down but I don’t dump him for an equally bad deal for a skater.
No need to move Vladar or Wold either. Our goalies are set for the next couple of years. Let’s hope Markstrom can rebuild his game. Is Ian Clarke available or is he still with the Canucks?

Why wouldn't 'someone else' be the better option? Remind me what has Treliving done that is so great?

It's the kind of thinking that gets you a Gulutzan. I wonder if he's available actually. GM Glue Gun?

I'd be open to moving Vladar.
I like him but if some team in dire need of goaltending came offered a good package for him then you move him.
He's not that good that you're sweating that he becomes a star starter or anything like that IMO.

These types of comments are such a cop out to real discussion
I don't know who the Flames should hire as the next GM, but I can still have the opinion BT's tenure hasn't produced the desired results, and the Flames are arguably in one of the worst overall states in the NHL right now.
Old, at the Cap, no impact prospects on the horizon, no extra picks, and fighting for last playoff spot.
It's easy to see why someone would think it's time to move on. Fear of hiring someone worse should never be the reason for retaining a current employee.

So, is it time to start buying draft guides and learning about the prospects available in the 9-15 range in this draft?
Don't think we will be in the Bedard sweepstakes but in the range of prospects right above that top 5 maybe. something seems to have come to a head recently, especially after yesterday. The rumors swirling around what its like being a Flame this year, they've potentially quit on the coach etc. Could be wrong but it seems like things are shifting from "try to sneak in" to a "salvage what we can and fire/retool" situation.

Well even if we make playoffs odds of us winning a round are low so even prospects in the 16-18 range should be getting researched!

Drafting has been better under Tre than I can recall in the previous 20 years before Tre.
Curious why you think Tre would be bad for a rebuild?
