I think Sutter was already past his best before date when the Flames plucked him from his pastures out of desperation
This is just a continuation of last couple seasons with LA where he was out of tricks and old Iggy was grumpy for having to close out his career under him & picking fights with the two alberta teams
He didn't want the Jack Adams last season because he knew his top line was playing exceptional and carrying his team in spite of him. He could sense that much of the credit wasn't his to take. At least he's honest

I'm pretty sure there are people in the Flames organization wondering if he's the right guy for this team. The issue is that Darryl is Edwards hand picked guy and I'm not sure the GM could fire him if he wanted to as long as Edwards is still a believer. We don't even know at this point if the GM will be back as for all we know Treliving may move on and Darryl assume GM duties again. There's just so much uncertainty with the organization right now and it seems like the players aren't buying into what's happening.

Ah well, not even upset about this one. The pattern of one good season followed by a bad season or 2 continues, as it always does with this franchise. At least there's a chance next season will be decent, or perhaps the one after.
Team is what it is.

I hope they either go on a ten game winning or losing streak now. Get in or get out

^^ Franchise is what it is. The fact that this pattern exists with as much turnover as they have is the truly remarkable part.

It is the Punch Imlach 79-81 era for the Flames. When we trade Pelletier to Arizona for two used bottles of sunscreen just to piss off Huberdeau we will know we are fully in the era.

That Tanev interview is just weird to me.
Hard not to speculate that there’s absolutely something wrong with the players/coach relationship.
What a brutal season.

Oh hey look at that.
Sutter claims this team doesn't need a captain, refuses to name one and NOW all of a sudden claims the "leader ship GROUP" isn't doing well enough?
This team hasnt had a captain since Gio left, and Sutter himself said they dont need one but guess what.... I think this team does need one, one who shows up every night and puts the team first and one who can hopefully stand up to the coach and give him some of the players input. But that's what I think Sutter doesn't want, he wants to call the shots on his own.

I read that in Sutters last year with the Kings the players would lock him out of the dressing room after losses and I wonder how close the ‘leadership group’ on the Flames is to repeating this.

Shot counts aside, this team is #### on D
And Sutter is kind of a d*** about it

Nope. According to everyone here it doesn't matter how good the plays are the goalie needs to stop some. If that applies to Markstrom it also applies to Vladar.
I've thought all year that the the chances the Flames give up are just too high quality and on top of that each goalie let's in a stinker or two.

A player 7 years past his prime is a hard-to-justify signing. I don't know why coaches aren't regarded the same way.

That Tanev interview is rough.
You can see the deflation in his face, and the constant "its on me, its my fault" is sad.
When your highs aren't high and your lows are that low its a rough go.
Someone else said it, but I miss the purple gatorade antics and hugs after big wins.
Feels like the players just have no emotion no matter the outcome, this team clearly isn't playing for one another and no clue how they can fix that.

Ha, are you new here?
That isn't how the Flames work, just barely not good enough, year after year

Send Sutter back into the scouting and advising dept and get Andrew Brunette in. Play some fun hockey like they did in Florida last year. If they end up in the Bedard sweepstakes great. At least some guys will have inflated numbers to be traded at the dead line or in the off season. If you cant get a decent return for them keep Hubey and Kadri like how LA kept Kopitar and Brown it wont affect a rebuild. Its not worth trading either of them for some post apex living off fumes player like Anderson. At least have some fun and give the fans some excitement.

This fiasco stems from many points.
Darryl Sutter is one of the primary reasons for the fading light that is holding the Flames back from their potential. The guy has had greatness in the past but he's stuck on his own ego to progress further with this team.

Sutter is great when the players buy in to his system
When things don’t go well, he is stubborn and miserable. Things just get worse.
It’s not the first time. Probably 3rd or 4th already. There is no fixing until he is gone.
