I have mixed feelings about this, if he had previously expressed these displeasures to Treliving and this was a last resort, then I'm all for it. I feel the internal closed door talks for this organization wasnt getting the job done, maybe this public kick in the was will force them to respond

One can only hope that this is a step toward Huberdeau getting moved.

If I was the coach he’d get 8 mins of ice time next game, max. But I’m petty like that.

I'm sure Sutter would love to give those minutes to Lucic, Ritchie and Lewis.

Frolik was arguably the best UFA contract that Tre had ever given out. The guy did nothing but show up to camp in the best shape of anybody and played hard almost every night.
Did Huberdeau really just go from an all-star to a pumpkin in one summer? I'm not going to defend his play, but there's clearly something going on with the relationship with Sutter. Walsh says this stuff when the coaches are playing mind games.

Was Peters playing mind games? Or by that point, was frolik a fringe NHL player? Given that he couldn't stick with Habs, sabres or st Louis...I'd suspect he just wasn't a good enough player towards the end of that contract. But Walsh carries his water all the same...
What is Hubys issue? He doesn't like the vibe? He doesn't like his minutes? He doesn't like who he's playing with? He doesn't like the system? He's not playing in overtime? He's not playing in key moments of the game?
This comes across to me as a player who is looking for someone else to blame and is getting Walsh to carry his water. It is Frolik 2.0, but not in a good way.
Everyone who watches the player can see how bad he's been regardless of who his linemates are. He generates very little, isn't a high-end two-way forward, and isn't making his teammates better. I dont see a guy that's really contributing much at all and is under producing most of the other top-9 forwards most nights.

They can only do that until 2026. If it comes down to the 2026 pick, that belongs to Montreal no matter where the Flames finish.

A fringe NHLer can't get 0.5 PPG in 13 minutes a night with zero PP time. Peters was playing mind games, that's why Walsh talked about it.
I have no idea what's wrong with Huberdeau, but the Walsh tweet seems to suggest that there's some sort of disconnect with the coach.

One can only hope. It's the best outcome for all. Imagine 8 more years of this. Would be awful for the flames and the player.
Coincidentally, Detroit could be a good landing spot for him. They got lots of cap space, are in the hunt for the playoffs and have a couple prospects in Edvinsson and Kasper that could be interesting.

With his anchor of a contract, no one will offer anything of significance for Huberdeau. The Flames will be incredibly lucky if they can get another team to take Huberdeau and his salary for nothing.

From Lebrun on frolik-walsh-peters
"The first thing you need to know is that Walsh doesn’t hit Twitter like that unless he has first had a few behind-the-scenes conversations with the organization. And sources do indeed confirm that Walsh and Flames GM Brad Treliving talked about the Frolik situation a few times over the past several weeks before Walsh finally took to social media to hammer Peters.
Now, as it turns out, Frolik was back in the lineup New Year’s Eve and in fact in a top-six role, back on his old line with Mikael Backlund and Matthews Tkachuk. Interesting timing? My understanding from a source in the organization is that Peters had decided hours before the Walsh tweet that this would be the case. I don’t know that Walsh would buy that.
Regardless, it is a situation to monitor going forward. If Frolik doesn’t stay in the mix in a decent role, no doubt Walsh could eventually put pressure on Treliving to move him. If he hasn’t already suggested that possibility.
So, we’ll see where all this heads. Treliving is a level-headed guy and I like the way he’s stick-handled his way around a lot of this so far this season. He’s not going to be forced into anything he’ll regret. The team is winning, and that’s the main thing here."

Not a Walsh fan at all and given the team is in a bit of a death spiral the timing is kind of poor. I think fans have to remember that even if Huberdeau has had discussions with his agent where he's felt he hasn't been used properly, Walsh is a loose cannon and he very likely put out that tweet without Huberdeau's blessing.
That said there's definitely something going on with this team. They have not played well and there doesn't seem to be a lot of happy players. They mentioned on 960 that this will be the worst goaltending stats of any Darryl Sutter coached team, including the San Jose years. This team has way too much talent to have the amount of breakdowns and poor goaltending they have this season. Flames have not won a single game this season entering the 3rd period trailing their opponent. Flames are one of three teams without a team shutout this season and the other two teams are the Canucks and Blue Jackets who have been disasters. Something very wrong with the team this season.

Sutter is well known to suck the life right out of a room and kill any fun with his negativity. On the other hand, Huberdeau is having a terrible season and is looking to be one of the worst signings in recent memory with an anchor contract that will hurt this franchise for a long time. But we've seen players respond with a new coach and I doubt Huberdeau and Sutter will just magically patch things up and turn it around. You can't fire the players. Sutter has to go.

Is it not possible that the "negativity" portion of his comment is the fans? Huberdeau has never played in a pressure city before.

You can trade a player who has a very light modified NTC.

Has a player’s agent ever called out a team’s fanbase for being mean before? I l’m not being sarcastic or anything, I don’t know anything about how sports agents operate

Who's going to trade for Huberdeau right now? It'd be Lucic for Neal all over again and that trade is still hurting us. No thanks.
