Josh Anderson is a glorified Nick Ritchie making three times as much for five times as long. No thank you.

Both Flames and Canucks move on from their big off season extensions. Canucks bank on Huberdeau and Pettersson being deadly together, and get a dman they desperately need.

Flames get two forwards that don't break the internal cap as much as Huberdeau does at $10.5M, actually kind of fixes some of the issues in the top 9.
I would say no. Miller is a huge DB, and a locker-room cancer. If you think the team looks bad now, wait until Miller came here...

I suggested some stuff around Huberdeau and Miller and I think it is one of the only potential deals that could actually work for Huberdeau. 2 teams moving on from regrettable deals.

I wouldn't love it either.

But I have a feeling Treliving / Ownership / Sutter aren't going to love Mr. Walsh's tweets tonight.

Except he's not. Anderson can really skate, while Ritchie is slow. Anderson makes a difference on the ice with his physicality and forechecks hard, while Ritchie needs his butt kicked constantly to stay motivated. You're right about the contract though.

Huberdeau to the Canadiens for their 2023 1st (top 3 protected), the 1st that we traded in the Monahan deal and Dvorak?

Who says no?

The Habs. They will want their 2023 pick.

Uh, Montreal. You couldn't get a single pick for Huberdeau right now.

I have a feeling the one team that would want Huby is Montreal. Not sure what they have that we would want realistically in a trade.

I could see a garbage combo of Dvorak and Andersen for Huberdeau. I don’t see how the Flames could get any futures with that contract. They would likely just want to be able to move it.

Do you try and sell on the fringes so you can stay competitive next season? Looking at players outside of the top 6F and top 4 D on shorter-term contracts. What could you get for Backlund and Zadorov? I'd hate to move Backlund but I think he would draw alot of interest.

Competitive in Calgary means mediocre, so yes, that is what the franchise will do. It won’t be Backlund, maybe move Ritchie for a 4th and call it a day, give the guys one more chances before Toffoli and Hanifin sign somewhere else as UFA’s. If they catch lightning next year and if Sutter is firing on all cylinders they could be the 12th best team in the league. More than likely closer to 18th.

Just wait until Darryl is the GM in the summer, he will sort it out.

Yeah I just feel like they committed to going for it for at least two seasons, this season and next. If both seasons go off the rails you sell hard next season, when you have over half your core becoming UFA.

I mean you can sell hard this season, but in my mind you might as well give it one more season at this point and then sell. You're married to Kadri and Huberdeau for the next decade anyways.

They will be tied for 8th next year and unable to sell because Darryl could make the playoffs and win the Cup. They will finish 9th and Hanifin, Lindholm and Toffoli will sign somewhere else. Tanev will retire because 4 years of playing for Darryl will have sucked the joy out of him and his body will be broken down completely because he is such a warrior. Backlund will sign a final contract and retire as a lifelong Flame.

We will then start the youth movement. It is the way it must be for the Flames.

As sutter gets promoted to GM and drafts purely based on size.

haha ain't that the truth... God I hope not

edit: except the Backlund part. Wouldn't be too bummed about that.

Montreal would absolutely want Huberdeau, even at this contract. He'd be a hero.

But yeah, right now the return would be Anderson & Gallagher. And Sutter might love that.

The Gallagher contract is (signed through 26/27) even worse than the Anderson one. He's hit a massive decline and I don't see him bouncing back as that contract will inevitably be bought out.

^ Yep, but if there is one silver lining, their combined deals run out before Huberdeau's. But the point is that the Habs would absolutely want Huberdeau. He isn't untradeable even when the new deal kicks in. The return however might not be great, but those are 2 guys that you just know Darryl would love. Darryl doesn't love Huberdeau, that much is apparent.
