It's like having the cure for what ails you in one vile, yet the doctor keeps injecting you with the other vile that keeps making you sicker and sicker. Not a fan of the GM stepping in to make lineup decisions, but at this point something needs to be done if this season has any chance of being saved.
I like Markstrom and think he's a good dude. But this isn't Sept/Oct/Nov where you still have some leash to find your game. This is crunch time where points MATTER and in the world's best hockey league the coaches should be icing the best roster possible to get those points. You can't tell me with a straight face that the coaches all sit in the same room together, compare the play of Markstrom and Vladar, and come away thinking that Markstrom offers the best chance to win. Pretty obvious that Sutter is a stubborn old man who is hanging onto this pipe dream of somehow breaking a Vezina goalie out of his funk and going on a run.
Meanwhile, the younger guy who can take you on that run your team desperately needs, sits in his stall wonder WTF he needs to do to get more ice time. Literally ties the franchise's goaltending record for going undefeated, yet stapled to the bench. ####ing LOL.
Kind of done with this team until they make the hard decision (which really isn't that hard TBH) and puts the damn 1B goalie in net for a long stretch run. I still want to believe "in Sutter we trust", but step 1 is Vladar in net. Without that step, this team is done for.
On a positive note, Tyler Folli is the ####! Doing his best Iggy impression from the faceoff dot. Almost PPG. Set to smash his career offensive totals. Good Tyler Folli.

The vezina nomination might be the worst thing to happen to him
His season was skewed by the shutouts, which were driven by complete team efforts in front of him
Saying "we have a vezina nominee" is the unfortunate excuse they can go to no matter how bad the play is and make it sound like giving him starts is still justified when it no longer is
If they want to ride or die with the guy because he had a hot season *last year*, then enjoy the incoming 9th place finish and the fallout from that
Time to get with reality. There's no runway left to figure it out
If you aren't willing to cut the weak links loose because you shook hands with them and feelings, etc, then you will never be a championship team
Because you will sooner or later line up against a team along the way willing to make those tough decisions you aren't willing to make in order to ice their best possible line up and they'll win because of that

He’s been one of the bright spots this year. He pretty much earned the spot that Mangi was supposed to have on the top line. We’re harping on Huby for not living up to expectations, and understandingly so. But Mangi has dropped of from almost scoring 40 last season to scoring at a 16 goal pace at the moment

The 4th lines ice time in the 3rd is completely on Sutter and the cause of this mess.
Absolute trash coaching.

.....and great play by him. He's had a rough go of it this year, but that doesn't mean we can just make things up about the past. He was excellent last season.

4th line was bleeding shots and chances and letting the Senators top players to get rolling.

The point is the 4th line typically gets too many looks in the last 5 minutes of close games.
The point stands about Backlund line needing to be the one out there

So it’s Sutter’s fault for putting out the 4th line because despite not getting scored on they put our top line and top pairing at a psychological disadvantage against Ottawa, so it’s actually their fault for the 2GA even though they weren’t in the ice, and therefore it was Sutter’s fault for having them on the ice at all?
That’s a little too dumb to be taken seriously.

He was great. Though being in the top 3/4 was largely thanks to the 9 shutouts. And the point is he maybe "stole" 1 of those shutouts. The rest were on the back of the team doing an excellent job sheltering him.
But that doesnt matter now because he no longer has whatever he had going right with him last season.

How so?
Hockey, like any sport, has momentum shifts. Critical line matching and time distribution is what good coaches and good teams do.
Or do you think Colorado and Tampa's coaches are out there throwing out their 4th line every 2nd shift and getting caved in and saying, ah well, luck of the draw.

They probably send out a 4th line that isn’t three bad AHLers when they do.

I think it's fair to say Sutter relied too heavily on the 4th line to go out and "not get scored on" in the third instead of rolling lines 1-3 to try and generate a 4th Flames goal.

He didn't finish 2nd in voting because he was sheltered, he earned that nomination. Anyways, obviously Markstrom has struggled at times this year but the team defense has also been an issue all season. Way too many Grade A chances out of nowhere. I also don't recall exactly how many times last year the team let a 2 goal lead slip away like last night, I'm not sure they did that once. This is a very spotty, inconsistent team with multiple warts.

You can’t just make up that they were out there too much when they did their job while they were out there and the top line didn’t. You see, scoring a goal or not allowing a goal is generally considered a preferable shift to allowing two goals. Or do you think Colorado and Tampa’s coaches are getting blamed when they send out a line with the lead and it doesn’t get scored on?

The results don’t support it. The 4th line didn’t get scored on. The 1st line did, twice. You can make that argument most games, but it looks stupid given what happened during this game.

Sutter doesn't match lines and he never will he just rolls 4 lines like they all do the same thing.
He even talked about line matching vs Edmonton in the playoffs and said he can't do it it's too hard.
