See, thats sort of my point.
Thats not different at all.
They said the same thing with Batman vs. Superman.
And Justice League.
And Aquaman.
And Wonder Woman 84.
What do all of those movies have in common? They suck out loud. But they made money. Granted, a lot of those were also budgetary boondoggles (sounding familiar yet?) and their actual profits are nebulous and difficult to quantify.
Gunn knows what he's doing, but again, sorry if I'm skeptical but:
"Salesman heavily endorses own product despite having significant vested interest in its successful outcome, his motivations are unclear. More News at 11."
I also think we need to step back off of the "Gunn-Train" a little now. He's not a Director anymore, he's the head of the Studio.
He couldnt care less if its any good or not, he needs it to make money. Half of the actors in this movie will never be seen in any of these roles ever again.
Looking at the actions of Warner Bros/Discovery lately? He needs this movie to make money (sensing a theme yet?) or Zaslav will eviscerate his budget.
Either way, I'm hoping its awesome and paves the way for some more great movies, I'm just not holding my breath because DC's 'Well of Goodwill' has run pretty dry.
But I dont have a dog in the fight. Realistically, this is a great moment and opportunity for DC. They're playing with the Reset button while Marvel is out there offering nothing inspiring at the moment, there is an opportunity here for the pendulum to swing their way, hopefully they grab the chance and run with it.
And its about family! Its been so long since we've have a movie about Family! Should we have a betting pool about how many times we hear the name 'Martha' in this film?

And this isn't some made for TV movie they can absorb a write off for. This is a $200m tentpole. They need this to succeed in the worst way.

Yeah...considering all of the other difficulties this movie has faced, I also think that '$200M Budget' is, if not wildly understated...probably closer to an outright lie.

Really? The visuals look pretty on point to me. The only iffy one is that scene where Supergirl is in the gown. That looks a little Matrix 2/3 to me.
I'm far more concerned about DC relying on Miller to make one liners.

Early reviews of Quantumania are very mediocre and I can't say I'm surprised. Looks like a big pile of nothing.

Ant man and wasp was an extremely confusing choice to really lead off this next phase. The worst performing of the franchises, the characters with the least built up collateral... to me it was a guaranteed flop. Almost like they're sabotaging themselves.

Paul Rudd's Ant Man has a shelf life. And that was one movie.

The first Ant Man was good because Edgar Wright was so heavily involved early on before leaving. The 2nd one was not great imo

Quantumania definitely looks cool visually in the trailers. I'll probably still see this.
I think we may be started to get more honest reviews of MCU films. There was a time, when no matter how average the film was, every MCU got stellar reviews. My guess it that this movie is probably more on the level of Captain Marvel, 1st Ant Man, Doctor Strange, etc...but just not getting the top notch reviews.

Its that beautiful Venn Diagram between story-telling, making actors happy and milking an IP for all its worth.

It's not a stellar record for P4, but I did enjoy Shang-Chi, No Way Home, WandaVision, Loki, What If...?, and She-Hulk.
I'm concerned that Quantumania is going to undermine what they established in Loki in the same way Multiverse of Madness undermined WandaVision.

Disagree. IMO, Ant-Man is one of the more interested characters as one of the only with an actual family and foot in the real world before coming into the Avengers. He's a great outsider that can ask the questions all of us do.
I liked Ant-Man and The Wasp and am looking forward to Quantamania. Probably mostly because I enjoy questions of time/space/physics and it will be a fun exploration of stuff like that.

Reviewers are saying the movie kind of ignores all the physics, and a lot of the creatures that inhabit the world are just general "small" creatures:
https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/a...ie-review-2023
Like they have a bunch of Tartigrades there...that are small, but nowhere near sub-atomic.
The quantum real is also a link between the multiverse. As in every reality, has the same quantum realm. That really further complicates things, as you can change realities.
I wouldn't go into this movie thinking too hard about the science involved.
