I think the Flames will acquire Boeser + Schenn at the deadline.

Lucic will go the other side + prospects/picks.

Then, they should unload Markstrom + Coleman.

Next season:

Huberdeau-Kadri-Boeser
Dube-Lindholm-Toffoli
Mangiapane-Backlund-Pelletier
Duehr-Lewis-AHL Guy

Andersson-Hanifin
Tanev-Weegar
Zadorov-Kylington

Vladar
Wolf

Gets me to about $81 MM

The Flames will spend a 4th on a depth player. Most years, a move like that would annoy me, but this year I’d be fine with it.

I don't like his salary but Coleman is super important for the team.

Very important for our PK, plays super hard minutes with Backlund and is a great defensive forward.

He is pretty much the ideal third line forward.

Lucic isn’t waiving to go to bottom feeder Vancouver.

Flames largest issue is the PP and a true D to QB it. Klinberg or someone like that.

Also gets stone out of the 6D rotation. Pair klinberg with zadorov.

My god no. That 3rd pairing would be lit up

He wouldn’t waive for non bottom feeder Vancouver. he hates them, and has said so. He’s bitter about how they treated him, as a home town guy, when he played for Boston.

I don’t mind getting Stone out at all. But IMO the power play’s issues are not caused by a lack of a true top D back there. It’s their uncreative and slow puck movement, with no goalie movement.

He’s bad but I don’t think he should be shot.

I think adding an elite PP D would help a ton. Open up space and create movement.

Apparently Kostin was hurt last night. If the Oilers can put him on LTIR, they can avoid having to put Puljujarvi on waivers to activate Yamomoto

And if he claims he's OK tomorrow or something they can always opt to push him down a flight of stairs to ensure this strategy

Well, and elite player at any position helps. But this is a TDL deal. No elite players will be traded.

I love how all these teams with cap issues suddenly get lucky with injuries.

Edmonton should be fined a 1st round and 8 points in the standings.

I’ve heard it first hand from a scout who has been around for a while that Treliving and the Flames ownership have a very good relationship. I think the conversation is based on both parties appetite to want to continue working together and in what role. Does Treliving still want to be the GM, or would he want another role, POHO?

Based on the offseason they just had and the contracts handed out, I think it’s more likely than not that Treliving will be with the Flames.
This is amazing to read, thanks for sharing. Hope it's all accurate and Tre stays long term with the Flames. One of the better GMs out there and I expect he'll get even better as he continues to grow and learn.

yeah that looked bad

I've lost track of exactly the Oilers cap situation or how LTIR is really calculated (or don't care enough to do the math) but Kostin is a league minimum guy- I would think this might take 13 off the chopping block but its going to take more than waving Shore I think? one of the slightly higher ticket guys like Ryan or Janmark?

Fourth period's update on the Flames:
https://www.thefourthperiod.com/pagn...qHXs3A.twitter

Quote:
The Flames are tied with the Minnesota Wild with 60 points in the Western Conference. They’re currently on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. Missing the playoffs is not an option for Calgary. And that explains their activity of late.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney isn’t the only GM checking in on everybody, as I wrote about Friday. You can add Calgary GM Brad Treliving to the mix.

There is A LOT of speculation surrounding the Flames. Some of it is pretty wild. Bottom line, Treliving isn’t happy. He is not pleased with his team’s performance and there are even some whispers over the future of head coach Darryl Sutter.

I’d be pretty surprised to see a mid-season change behind the bench in Calgary, but more than two well connected people have brought that up over the last few days.

Saturday’s 7-2 win over Buffalo was significant. The focus now, it appears, is on the ice. Calgary has poked around on several players, including Chychrun. Treliving wants to add up front, too. If there’s a move or two, or three, out there that he feels will improve his club’s chances at making the playoffs, he’s interested in exploring it.

Lots of eyes (insert emoji) on Calgary.
