Possibility that the second balloon was just a US weather balloon launched from a NWS office in Alaska. I imagine that would be right up there among the most interesting work stories the people launching balloons from that office will ever get if it turns out to be the case.

I don’t understand. I was told a number of pages ago that you can’t shoot these things down.

Hrm, if only the F-22 can handle this menace, maybe we can leverage this to get the US to sell us some!

According to an Air Force friend who is in Inuvik at the moment, Canadian Hornets were scrambled but the US had assets closer, that's why they did it
He actually sent me a vid of their base alarm going off. Pretty neat

CNN had already mentioned that the objects were interfering/jamming aircraft sensors.
To note: This object was originally detected over . . . . you guessed it - Alaska . . . . and veered into Canadian airspace. The first one was taken down by the US on the Alaskan northern coast. That now makes two Alaskan-sourced UAP, both times being tracked and engaged.
I'd be curious to see the rule of engagement policy the US/Canada/NORAD/NATO is following on this. You don't just shoot down objects, there has to be a clear purpose and validity to shooting down objects. Was it displaying hostile intent? Was it intended to establish pre-emptive strikes?
I'm assuming the NORAD North Warning System ground radar has probably been picking up multiple objects and a specific response has already been pre-determined to handle similar objects in similar scenarios.
It leads me to believe whatever these are, there is a greater chance if they are part of a fleet. Whether it's Russian, Chinese, or other is really the intriguing part.
For the record, I don't think these UAP at ET. It would be incredibly difficult to bring down objects that fall under the five observables, and to do it multiple times in the same week would be extremely improbable.
I think there's a good chance these are Russian based on proximity alone. They are more belligerent than they've ever been and probably trying to provoke the West into reacting. But who really knows what's going on (at least us plebs).

Or just getting them to waste millions of dollars on sorties to shoot pop the balloons.

These balloons are just becoming untethered.

Something up right now in northern Montana. NOTAM for an area now operating as “international defence airspace”.

If humanity ends up getting led into global conflict over an assessment of 'balloons displaying hostile intent', I might feel that as a species we more or less deserve the nuclear winter.
Can we just turn things over to the dolphins and the cephalopods now? Apes aren't proving the best at this. At the very least maybe we could put the bonobos in charge for a while instead of us.
