5 THINGS - FLAMES @ SABRES

KNOW YOUR ENEMY

The Sabres, who are playing their first game back from the bye week, were greeted with some good news at Friday's practice.

Tage Thompson was back on the ice as a full participant after suffering an upper-body injury in Buffalo's last game on Feb. 1, forcing the goal-scoring wizard to miss the NHL All-Star Game.

"It was nice to get a little rest there, a little time off, take care of the body and get ready to start the remaining of the season up," Thompson said.

Calgary Flames Game Day 53: A brunch game in Buffalo

The Flames aren’t a bad team. They’re not amazing either. They’re pretty good, but they’re not great. They lack consistency this season, and they’re essentially in the spot they are now where they need to grind to generate offence and capture points. They need to embrace the grind over the next 30 games and figure out a way to string some wins together, otherwise they’ll maintain their current spot outside of the playoff cutline.

Sabres face the Flames in a non-conference matchup

BOTTOM LINE: The Buffalo Sabres host the Calgary Flames in a non-conference matchup.

Buffalo has gone 11-13-2 at home and 26-20-4 overall. The Sabres have given up 169 goals while scoring 185 for a +16 scoring differential.

Calgary has a 24-18-10 record overall and a 10-9-8 record on the road. The Flames have a 24-2-8 record when scoring at least three goals.

Sabres are in playoff race ahead of schedule, and Kevyn Adams is walking interesting line

When the Sabres hit the ice for practice Thursday in the wake of their bye week – nobody brought any sunshine back from the Bahamas or Arizona? – they were three points out of the final playoff slot. They wake up Friday morning with five games in hand over the New York Islanders and three over Washington.

It's hard to care about hockey when I'll still be drinking coffee at 9:30 am (BC!). As well, feel like just pencilling in a loss to another bottom-feeder much like last game and last meeting.

Then again, maybe a happy surprise.

Important game to kick start a playoff drive filled with clutch performances by veteran players who know what it takes. I think we know what is going to happen down the stretch. Go Flames Go.

Important game for both teams.

Buffalo is 4 points out with 3 games in hand.
Calgary is tied for WC2 but has played 1 more game.

Flames better stay out of the box. Buffalo’s PP is very good . I’ve watched a bunch of buffalo games this year and they are an exciting , young team to watch. They have speed, skill and have some players who are not afraid to use the body.

Put some Kahlua or Bailey's in it.

Please give me something to cheer for. Tested positive for COVID after all this time and it is darn depressing. Go Flames!

Tage Thompson is going to have his way with the soot stain that is this team. Expecting another 0 stat line from Jonathan Huberdough.

I'll just be happy if we aren't down by 1 goal 10 mins in.

Hopefully they trade chances with a exciting Buffalo team and try to win 7-5 instead of grit grind a 2-1 win.

Fan morale at an all-time low which pretty much assures a 6-2 victory.

Flames going to Flame.

Yeah I’m not sure they will be able to “grit grind” against this team . Buffalo has some serious size in their lineup.

If Buffalo is a bottom feeders we're in trouble because they are 2 points behind us.

Size, speed and skill. Buffalo’s going to be a big challenge for the Flames. Calgary needs to limit their penalties and turnovers.

My son and his buddy will be at the game. He will be wearing a retro Gilmour jersey. Say hello to him. Hopefully the Flames put in the same effort he did to get tickets and travel to the Key Bank Center.
