Experienced depth isn't the worst trade deadline deal. He's not going to be getting much more cash owed to him, and the more we retain the better return we can get for him.

Guy can hold his own for a playoff run.

I sure hope Treliving is shopping Lucic despite him being on an expiring contract. It is the only thing that will stop Sutter from playing him

I'm sure teams are lining up to grab Lucic.

And the only reason Lucic would be at all palatable would be because he's on an expiring contract.

TSN Insider Trading:
https://www.tsn.ca/video/~2625622

Rangers acquiring Tarasenko narrows the field for P. Kane
Some close to Kane believe that NYR was going to be the prime destination if he was going to leave Chicago
Odds of leaving Chicago get a little slimmer as there are only a handful of teams he will waive NTC for

Excellent market for Barbashev
Blues still might explore extension with O'Reilly

Meier trade could happen much sooner than March 3rd because if extension needs to be part of deal it makes sense to do the deal sooner.
So much interest in Meier that Sharks have a sense of the market.
NJ and Carolina among the several teams interested

Oilers are in a dollar in/dollar out situation with Yamomoto ready to come off LTIR soon.
Puljuarvi trade is a possibility.
Possible that Puljuarvi might be put on waivers. If he clears he could be more attractive because he could be sent up and down.

Luke Schenn likely to go down to the wire on March 2 or 3.
Canucks haven't decided what to do with Schenn.
Schenn has indicated he is fine with staying in Vancouver and signing an extension.
May come down to the quality of the trade offer on the table.

Yzerman weighing what he might get for Bertuzzi vs re-signing him

I feel like Kane is going to end up staying with Chicago and then maybe leaving in the off-season, while Meier ends up in New Jersey.

I still see Puljujarvi playing for Calgary. It's all upside IMO. Low acquisition cost, and a decent amount of runway to see if he fits.

Outside of that, Barbashev would also be decent addition to run the season out.

IMO, if the Flames are a bubble team (they are), then there's some leeway to try to get some cheap options into the fold and see if they can help in the cap crunch next season.

The point was the Flames added a top player mid-season. Yes, it was lucky but after they got Kipper they were a top team in the league and adding the depth they did made sense because they were a very under rated team heading into that playoff. I recall top teams saying, "we don't want to play the Flames". Why, they were much better than their record.

This year's team could be much better than their record too, but I see them being a threat next year. Something is just off with this team and playing some young players for a few months will pay dividends for next year.
That’s why I used Lazar as a comparable acquisition. He was a top prospect going though tough times. But Kipper wasn’t some highly regarded kid. He wasn’t even the player the Flames wanted. he was coming off a pretty poor NHL record in the season before (in his 22 games he was 5-14 and .879 save%).

I would way rather get Puljujarvi for free on waivers than pay assets for another player. I would be surprised if he reached the Flames as a worse team would likely take the free look.

Maybe Calgary offers the 6th to close the deal

For waivers you end up taking the salary without sending any back, which is sometimes an issue when teams are close to the line.

You still have to ice something next year. I'm not saying add but dumpster diving for some help isn't a bad thing either. Things like puljujarvi or Barbashev a low risk acquisitions.

At this point, ice a line up including Pelletier, Zary and Coronato

Logan Thompson just went down with an injury.

…I wonder if they’d take Markstrom for Lehner’s contract?

Let’s say we sell… Are there a lot of buyers? Fortunately most of our players we can sell have another year left on their deal.

How about we sent them Lucic for Puljujarvi? They are paying part of Lucic's salary anyway.

I'm honestly of the mind that just about everyone is tradeable off our roster except maybe Wolf. So if the price is right, I'd listen on just about everyone.

I think you could get a HUGE haul for quite a few players, in order of what I think other teams would covet most:

1. Lindholm - Cost controlled 2 way center with a bit more term at probably one of the best contracts in the league right now
2. Hanifin - Young top 2/3 Defenseman w/ term on a good contract
3. Backlund - Maybe the best 3rd line center in the league, great shutdown guy as we know
4. Andersson - Another great young D with good term on a good contract who can put up points
5. Vladar - Goalie market is already a big need and with Thompson going down I think we'll see quite a few move this trade deadline.
6. Mangiapane - High upside, good contract and could flourish on a team looking for top 6 depth

Then there's the contracts I doubt you could move:

1. Huberdeau
2. Kadri
3. Coleman
4. Lucic - Even with 50% retained its a hefty price for a 4th line plug even for the reaminder of this season.
5. Markstrom - Maybe at the beginning of the year, but after his performance this year I'm not sure how many teams are lining up

Very interesting idea since Vegas has shown a lack of patience with goaltending

But Lehner needs to be either bought out or sent to Robidas island IMO

Sounds like Kane is very disappointed the Rangers decided to go with Tarasenko
