I dont know your particular situation, but this sort of goes back to my original point about WFH not being what a business considers 'Standard.'
Homes can be chaotic places not conducive to just getting work done.
I think most people think of WFH as something where a person just goes into their home office with their setup, logs in and works as normal just like they would if they went in to the office.
And some certainly are.
But there are a myriad of 'less than ideal' alternative scenarios too.

My company adopted the hybrid WFH schedule, 3 days a week in the office and 2 days a week from home. But now I found out that soon they will announce 4 days a week at the office and 1 from home. Reason being, they want to follow other companies in the industry. Which is another gear grinder, this company was looked at as a leader 10 years ago, shows what crappy executive leadership can do.
Anyways, I expect a massive up tick in sick days. People have finally settled into the 3/2 hybrid schedule and have had a great work/life balance only for it to be taken away.

Yeah, working in the office is great for collaboration, water cooler chats, things that you can't really schedule with a Teams meeting. But sometimes you just need to focus and get some stuff done...sometimes it's better for people to do it from home, some people prefer the office. I dunno...maybe we treat people like adults and let them make their own decisions as long as it isn't an actual detriment to others?

Yes, I have Monday and Friday as my WFH days and that's usually where I schedule my head-down work days.
As I said, hybrid seems to work well for most professionals.

You're probably right but in reality it should be the opposite. You would have to be pretty sick to not be able to work at all from home. Maybe not a lot, just answer emails etc. but everyone should still be able to function in some capacity most of the time.

This is dumb. If you’re sick, rest and try to get better. Not operate at 50% at your WFH desk. This is a ridiculous expectation.

JFC so many corporate cultures are comically toxic. WFH is good because you can keep working when you're sick? lol, unreal.

Nothing makes my skin crawl more than these stuffy, corporate environments. Even just the phrase 'corporate culture' sends a shiver down my spine. Sounds like prison to me, I could never work in an office

Yes, and a huge negative to the WFH approach is that the boundary between work and life has completely dissolved.

I imagine after hours calls/emails aren't uncommon as well. Screw all that

EXTREMELY common unless leadership takes initiative.

Damn. In a world where numbskull mid-managers spend most of their time just trying to justify their jobs, I imagine that's a hard line to draw. Brutal

This can be a huge benefit though. If I get sick with something that appears to be minor in terms of my bodies ability to handle it I could either go to the office contagious and potentially get other people sick or I could work from home and be productive. Being sick doesn't always render someone useless and unable to do some work.

No.
Its clearly completely Black or White. There is no room for nuance.

I’m pro this one.
90% of the time of I am sick it’s definitely reasonable to expect a few hours of work out of me. What do you find wrong about this? If the expectation for people not coming in is being incapable of performing work then that expectation was far too stringent.
I think the reasonable compromise is stay home more and stay home if kids are sick but if you are capable of working and it doesn’t affect recovery you should probably work.

It took me a while of work from home to be able to unplug. A transition activity was required effectively replacing my commute run, video games something to break up work day and home.

No it hasn't. When my day is done, I log off and walk away from my computer. If you can't do that, that's a you problem.
