A lot of great behind the scenes from the director of photography.

The gas station was built from scratch in the winter:

A lot more here (Fish Creek park, etc.)

Originally I wasn't a fan of the casting of her or Pascal but Pascal has managed to do Joel justice while I don't think Ramsey is there yet for Ellie.
Yeah, Bella's performance is not really doing it for me. Almost unfair she has to compete with the acting in the Bill & Frank episode, and Pedro absolutely bringing it every episode.

I love all the little details the show is carbon copying from the game, like the joke book and the porn mag in the truck.

Ashley Johnson from the game just absolutely killed the role. Hard to take the role and make it your own.

I said it was the set for The Last of Us. She wasn't convinced until I pointed out the police vehicle had "Boston" written on it.

I know a guy who was an extra in the show. When we were chatting, he couldn't tell us what he was doing, but he had mentioned he was getting close with the arts dept and starting to get interested in that type of movie support role as well. I think he had said they were building sets and many on site were helping to call around and/or source materials and things like that. I think that type of interaction, involvement and excitement from the locals is a small part of the reason why some of the actors/actresses and film crew were raving about.

I didn't think I would be this excited about it being filmed in our backyard, but I'm actually buzzing about it.

Is that civic pride I'm feeling?

oh you can prob tell this wasn't filmed in a US city by those road lights.

I don't know many other cities around North America where you get a light for every lane. I think the closest one is Edmonton.

Are the traffic lights normally vertical? Most lights in Calgary/Alberta are horizontal which is different than almost every other place in North America.

I have to say, I'm really loving the attention to detail in this show.

If, by attention to detail, you mean focusing on minutia versus moving the plot forward, then yes - there is certainly more attention to detail in this story than I have ever before seen, maybe.

Heads up next episode is released on Friday. So maybe don't come in here until after you watched on Sunday if you don't stream.

I don't mind if I get 9 episodes and super plot building rather than a rushed 2 hour movie which could have covered the entire 1st game.

That was the weakest episode to date, but it has some good growth for Joel and Ellie as they warm up to each other more. I think Ramsey is doing a perfectly fine job, although I could have done without the fan service car scene, that felt pasted in. Amazing sets this week and some very nice shots to look at. Unfortunately the Kathleen thing is coming across as some very hamfisted "see this person is blinded by revenge and it hurts everyone, human failings are worse than zombies, isn't that deep" nonsense that represents some of Druckmann's worst instincts. Hopefully they find a way to make that less boringly obvious or at least that it ends quickly.

It really is crazy, the attention to detail. They are driving past a movie theater with Matchstick Men aand Underworld on the marqee, films that came out in September 2003 (right around the outbreak).

I wonder if when a production team gets to do stuff like this from scratch, if it's more likely to avoid movie mistakes. Like instead of pulling down a thing promoting Avatar 2, they have to look up era appropriate movies to put in letters so that it won't be blank.

At an alleged $10+ million per episode the scale of the production shouldn't be surprising, but it's still wild to see when the production is right in front of you from start to finish.

And yet at the ending of episode 3 when Ellie and Joel enter Bill's house the lights were still on throughout the house. While it doesn't define how long they were dead, it appears to be in the range of weeks so that diesel generator would have long run out of fuel. I kind of feel that was a pretty obvious miss.

A couple days at most, I think. Based on the 80s song popping up on the radio just before they leave (?)
