The Flames were built as a rough and tumble team.
Well here’s your opportunity.
Welcome back from vacation!

Is his awareness that poor? Or is his disdain for Sutter from his playing days that pervasive?

I think he just wants to avoid saying anything bad about anything.
If he needs that to help with depression, fine. But he has no business in that chair then.
Mike Rogers would have been great in the colour commentary chair for this one. I'm sure he would have ripped into the dirty plays by his ex team.

What did they even call Lucic' penalty? Total bull.

They said they were reviewing it for a major penalty, which they can do…but if it’s not a major, it can be brought down to a minor - but not completely erased (or so I thought?)

I’ve said a lot that I could easily lose an on ice ref in replacement for a ref up above.

I could just be grumpy from the odd choices made by officails in that first period, but Anson Carter saying he wants to see those amatuer breakaway artists with some body contact, and then laughing and saying "against Trouba" just seems petty. They know they aren't in the NHL, you dont have to talk what they do down, because its pretty freakin impressive

My issue is dismissing the penalty all together. They called a penalty on the ice and the review was to determine major vs minor; that’s how I’ve always understood that rule.
The fact that the commentators nor the panel have stepped in to clarify the rule tells me I understand it just fine and the league made something up by calling that penalty completely off rather than calling it what they should have if they felt it wasn’t a major which is a 2 min minor.
I also object to Lucic minor because that ends up putting us on the penalty kill after all that.
I was already pissed that they called Tanev on the instigator when he didn’t even want to fight from watching the replay and had his gloves on for sometime before being pulled into a fight by Trouba. Then the league was like hey! Hold our beer for the beer that we just held.

Massacre at MSG!!!!
Coming right up!
Nothing stupid, finish every hit. Aggravate the goalie. Insult every Rangers dick size, mom and mom's dick size at every scrum.
If Flames don't play like this is all out war from here on out, then we should be sellers at the deadline.

That's what I thought as well, but I'm never surprised when it comes to NHL refs.

Ah, Anson Carter is an idiot who talked his way out of a premium job by thinking he was the reason why the Sedin line generated so much offense.
Talked his dumbass right out of the league.

They have (at least in the matches I watched) a guy off the field up above who is in the ear of the on field ref and helping from that perspective. This makes them almost never miss a call. Their linesmen are very good (it’s an easier rule than soccer TBF).

The NHL Rule Book has been updated for the 2022-23 season. There’s just one change, but it is a noteworthy one:
Referees will now be able to nullify a major penalty after video review.
The Referee shall have the following options after video review of his own call: (i) confirming his original Major Penalty call; (ii) reducing his original Major Penalty call to a lesser penalty; or (iii) rescinding the original Major Penalty altogether.

Once they started talking about the changes to the all star game, I realized that they just replayed the intermission panel that they aired during the break in the Canucks/NJ game. How embarrassing for Sportsnet.
