Dr. Clark looks like a fine academic, but look at his first 'professional affiliation'...

That is funny, but I my gut is telling me they picked him in large part because he very well might be in favor of making staff move to Athabasca. I know Scott was vehemently against that move and the UCP capitulated (he was also against post-secondary funding cuts as well as far as I remember).

After that, I'm sure Scott was a politically marked man and the writing was on the wall while the UCP implements their ideology on campuses.

UCP adding red tape and creating spectacles out of thin are for ideological reasons. What a complete waste of taxpayer money and ridiculous display of virtue signaling.

Free expression and religious values don’t mesh, I guess.

Shouldn't really be that big of a deal or that hard to produce because in theory it might be something that most institutions already look at and monitor via ESG policies and reporting.

Perfect! So then it's absolutely redundant.

There was no fire to begin with, it's already in a mature and stable process to follow, no need to implement more red tape.

It's just an ideological signal to the base that they're doing stuff that shows they care about these issues. In other words, as Ozy says, their own version of "woke virtue signaling". It won't do anything and isn't a major impediment to anything and absolutely is not worth caring about, regardless of whether you think it's a worthwhile thing for universities to do or not.

I really appreciate that the response to the complaint that this is pointless red tape and a waste of money was to say don’t worry, it’s just pointless red tape and a waste of money.

It both heightened and alleviated my concerns that this is just pointless red tape and a waste of money.

Kind of funny coming from the party that started the office of red tape reduction. It has its own minister and everything.

All they need is an office of red tape reduction for the reduction of red tape in relation to reducing red tape. Once the office is in full operation those who are the victims of excessive red tape can apply for an application to have the office of red tape reduction for the reduction of red tape in relation to reducing red tape reduce the red tape in the way for the red tape reduction office to reduce said red tape.

Not just in the affiliation section. The first line of his bio is:
Quote:
Alex Clark is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and former Associate Vice President (Research) and Professor at the University of Alberta.

They apparently didn’t “do their own research”

What happened to this thread? Is Smith being muzzled? It used to be so entertaining/horrifying.

Yup. And once she gets re-elected she'll be right back to emitting the foul miasma that normally comes from her teeth hole.

Take Back Alberta is assuredly muzzling her to win over the moderates and undecided.

Her strategy is almost certainly just "shut up and stand back". The Alberta political base will in turn do it's natural stimuli of "no Conservative news means Conservative = good".

And if any of that is remotely true, it just goes to show just how terrible of a leader she would be for the province.

Dark days ahead.

Smith was on vacation as questions swirled about her office reportedly interfering in prosecutions

https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/smith-wa...ions-1.6262158

Before leaving, Smith held a press conference on Jan. 10, where she promised to be more accessible to journalists. She has not appeared publicly to take questions in nearly four weeks since then

"The optics are not great for the premier because this absence from availability follows immediately when there were two serious sets of questions that were raised," political scientist Lori Williams told CTV News Edmonton.

"I think a lot of people are going to wonder about the timing of this and they may be asking if this is an attempt to avoid some of the controversy that's been stirred up recently."

Well so long as we’re just posting random responses that don’t really address anything in the OP, here’s a few random questions for you Yoho:

1. Why do you so strongly support a party that hasn’t and has given no indication that it will ever improve the rights of and protections for working class Albertans?

2. If given the option do you think the majority of Albertans would vote in favour of having Smith be their premier if that was the only question on the ballot?

3. When you refuse to respond to other posters who try to engage with you do you think that it makes your statements look more credible?
