Not to mention Bot Sentinel is built into the backend. The troll/bot containment and the community moderation is superior so far. I think the real test will be when there are far more users. The next part will be how do they manage growth and scaling appropriately, and respond to bottom-up platform feedback.

That said, Chris Bouzy is an excellent human being to lead the charge on a new platform. I have much faith in Spoutible with him at the wheel.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Bouzy. Guy seems to really know his stuff. I've been following the Spoutible development process and just signed up today.

This. Twitter can be a cesspool, or an excellent source of information. It depends who you follow. Follow reporters who cover your favourite team and people who share your interests.

There is no mental stimulation to be gotten from “f trudeau” and “trump 2024” content.

Its a website people choose to visit. Not a public service. If I came to CalgaryPuck and had to read a bunch of Edmonton Oiler fan posts so I'd be out of my bubble - I just wouldn't come back.

Musk found not liable for shareholder losses from his "funding secured" tweet.

MoneyGuy's post had literally nothing to do with politics.

You still haven’t been able to generate an answer yet as to what social media is good for. Like- literally one reason. I’m sure there is one but it’s yet to be explained.

Net negative to society (massively, actually).

There are a lot of things we do that aren't "good", it's a nonsense point.

Have you ever had any sort of hobby, project, little problem task that you can't solve? YouTube is insanely valuable in that regard.

That’s a great point. I’m pretty self-sufficient when it comes to home repairs and minor renovations, and it is 100% thanks to YouTube.

YouTube has enormous value.. the negative of it might offset the positive if viewed overall if such a thing could even be measured, but personally outside of the entertainment the pure value of how to do stuff is enormous. There's stuff I've done and felt comfortable with only because I've already seen someone do it.

Heck I've even used unboxing videos to see how to re-box something to send back as a return to make sure I get my refund.

YouTube gave me the skills to get into gardening and managing a permaculture backyard. I think it's the most useful online tool on the planet - and it's free. You can build skills and get help on just about everything.

Just this week I used YouTube to see how to replace a hose in my vacuum.

$19 repair, versus new vacuum.

I've replaced the side view mirror of my car & headlights.

Lots of great videos to show idiots like us how to do basic stuff.

Skeptical of the closed platforms such Spoutible. The federated ActivityPub protocol seems to be developing a following, with Post.News, Tumblr, WordPress, Mozilla and others building add-ons. Mastodon is only part of the transition.
