Why don't people use this opportunity to ask themselves why they need something like Twitter in the first place?

For a sports fan it's awesome, especially during games. Similar to the CP, GT threads, except you've got all the top beat writers taking part and giving in game updates to what they're hearing, and their insight. Following comedians is hilarious too.

But yeah, especially for the average political buff, I can't even imagine how toxic their TLs are right now. If I wasn't a big sports fan I wouldn't use it at this point. Sadly I still don't see an alternative app to date.

I agree totally, however, how do we get that message out to everyone?

I dunno. Take out an ad in the classifieds.

Seriously, I used to love Twitter and at one point, had a fairly significant following (~3,000 or so) for a small account, but it's just so pointless. Like everyone, I just devolved into harvesting likes with snarky BS. It is such a poisonous awful app.

I find myself using Twitter less and less because my feed is just an endless stream of garbage from accounts I'm not interested in. Whether I'm on "For You" or "Following", it's the same.
When I refresh/reload the feed I get the same garbage in a different order. Either people are tweeting things that are less interesting to me (unlikely) or the algorithm is broken.

It can be extremely informational, or it can be a toxic waste of time. It's entirely up to how each account chooses to operate.

I have about 500 followers and they consist mostly of industry professionals, researchers, developers, etc, across the world. My list of blocked words are 'liberals, trudeau, conservatives, harper, covid, vaccine, vaccinated, vax, BellLetsTalk'.

Keep seeing people calling it a cesspool. It's the choice of those people though to go swimming in that pool.

Spoutible.com is up and running and looks great. Edit button makes life better. Really good job and will pull many Twitterers away.

Spoutible will definitely be worth a try - hopefully the quality users of Twitter make the move.

You can rebuild Twitter exactly or even improve upon it.. but you need to get the users who people care about over there. Some site should identify the top x posters - and pay them to tweet over there for an exclusive period.

Still probably won't work - but just building a better twitter isn't going to steal users.

The key to healthy twitter is not going too deep past the initial tweet from someone you’re following. Once you start looking at responses, it just becomes stupid and toxic. Muting words and blocking also help.
