Also because it would be an absolutely baffling inside joke.
Just a giant Pyramid topped with a Sphinx.
Nobody would see it coming.

We would have to one up the Memphis pyramid

How does a giant ass office tower last 100+ years, but sports arenas max life span is like 40?
Frankly, I do not need to be attending a luxury venue to watch sports, so to me the dome is fine. I get beer and snacks, and go to my seat. Occasionally I'll go for dinner somewhere downtown beforehand. What do I care if the floor is polished concrete or granite tiles?
A new rink will have fewer seats, higher prices and for what? So the owners can just make more money?
I'm behind a renovation that would increase bathroom capacity.

What if the new event center was a replica of the Enterprise? Steal some of Vulcan's thunder.

Interesting idea. Might be a bit cluttered but we’ll consider it.

Not that I totally disagree with your premise, but acting as is this is some basic life necessity is a bit far. Think of how many sheets of community ice we could add for the cost?

On that note, while I was in Calgary for Christmas I was baffled at how few outdoor rinks were actually flooded in the NW. Literally just the one in Sandstone in my area, the hidden valley one wasn't running, Hamptons wasn't running, the one in Beddington got torn down cuz ####ty church years ago. It was pretty sad

I'm with ya except that the ceiling has crumbling concrete, would be quite an "experience" to get hit with one of those, so maybe building this puppy in the shape of a saddle in the end was not the best idea haha

That's part of my question though. Why don't these arenas last?
The Empire State building is almost 100 years old. I don't hear talk of having to demolish and replace it.

Maple Leaf Gardens was open for nearly 70 years. And about 72 years at the Montreal Forum.
Just fun data facts
EDIT:
I think the lifespan of modern arenas likely has to do the amount of revenue owners can get from the building and making the bowels swanky for the players as a way to entice free agents etc

I think the dome is particularly bad because of the roof. The real answer is that new arenas increase ownership value and ticket costs I think

Didn't MSG go through a $1B reno a few years back? So to answer your question, the building lasts, you just need to reno it. We can definitely keep the Dome, we probably just need to pour $500M in renos to make it happen.

Yeah, 3 years reno process, and $1B, so maybve not the best example of "let's just reno the Dome".

Anything is possible with money. It's a matter of if you want to spend a certain amount of money to extend the life of the building, or pay the same costs for a new one.

The problem for the Dome is not only would a reno cost the same or more, it wouldn't solve the roof.

It'd be really nice if topfiverecords would edit his post now that he got his joke in. The side scrolling is annoying.
