I enjoyed watching Darryl hoist the Cup.
Didn't much care for Gilmour's great run with the Leafs.
Happy that Mullen won some cups in Pittsburgh.
Kind of cool to see Vernon have a bit of a renaissance.
Feel really bad that Neal couldn't keep an NHL job.

I assume this is a statement made in jest

you'd really be ok with a guy on your team making 10.5M never breaking 60 points?

No we haven't. We got an Oilers discount for Looch.

You'd be getting a player that produces better than Backlund with no risk of falling off for 8 years. It's still 456 points.

In a perfect world, he's putting 100+ points a season for the next 4 years but do you see him doing that here? Or even coming close? I'd love for that to be the case.

100+? Maybe not, but there's a lot of options for point totals between 57 to 100+.
Not sure why you'd want be happy taking what has been an awful season and hopefully his worst/adjustment season and replicating that for the entire contract. In my mind, this year's point total is the floor for what we should expect going forward.

They have a chance but I don't think they will make the 2022 playoffs based on games played by teams around them.

When Tkachuk has been on the ice at even strength, the Panthers have had a decided edge in expected goals (61.5 per cent). Individually, his 21.3 expected goals in all situations rank 10th in the league.

Few players possess Tkachuk’s ability to score from in tight. He is tied with Brayden Point for the league lead in inner-slot goals (20) and sits second in deflection goals (7) behind Bo Horvat. With Tkachuk on the ice, the Panthers have controlled 68.3 per cent of shots from the inner slot, the area of the ice that has the biggest influence on a game’s outcome.

...

Overall, Huberdeau has been far less effective at creating scoring chances for himself and his teammates. The number of offence-generating plays he makes per game has fallen from 10.2 (tied for 15th last season among 532 forwards with a minimum of 100 minutes played) to 6.6 (106th out of 461 qualified forwards).

...

The Flames have controlled 60.9 per cent of 5-on-5 shot attempts with Weegar on the ice, which ranks fourth out of 262 qualified defencemen (min. 100 minutes). Weegar’s 128 defensive-zone carry-outs are ninth most at the position.

On the defensive side of the puck, Weegar continues to be great at getting his stick into passing lanes, ranking sixth in blocked passes.

57 points (with mostly assists) for $10.5M is one of the worst contracts in the league.

Huberdeau needs to be at 70 points at least (arguably PPG) over the first few years of the new contract. Hope he's up to it

Agreed, 10.5 MM should be a PPG player. That is the minimum expectation

You want PPG for sure but 10.5 isn't what it used to be...especially in Calgary, like it or not we have to pay more here

A 60 point guy like Horvat (outside of this season) is going to get 8x8 or so...contracts are going up big time. Matthews/McDavid types will be near 15M soon

He got the contract because he was the 2nd leading scorer in the league, nobody is gonna be happy with 57 points, he can be way better than that though and has had stretches.

We do need to consider team style, ice time, and linemates

a poor season is also easily redeemed with a good playoffs...I don't remember much complaining about Iggy's 67 in 04

Iggy won the Rocket Richard in 04 (along with Kovalchuk). His 67 was year 1 after the lockout and there were complaints. He did bounce back however.

There was no chance the Flames were going to be able to extend Huberdeau for less than the Gaudreau offer so it was either lock him up or risk losing him in free agency. There was likely no way they were trading him this season unless things went way off the rails. While it make not look great now the logic made sense.
