Simple, it’s for great hockey players, not great people

I don’t know, there’s definitely a line somewhere. Depends where it gets drawn. If Hitler was some incredible hockey player, are you going to admire his accomplishments despite everything else? Well, maybe a bad example, since Bobby absolutely would, but you get the idea.
The line is definitely somewhere between Hitler and Guy With Unpaid Parking Tickets when it comes to who should be celebrated in the hall of fame.

I reiterate...he was inducted as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Last I checked, that one's not for Hockey Players.

Sadly, honours like the Order of Canada are patronage awards, not merit awards.

Just sucks that a legend of the game, idol to many a young Canadian kid turns out to be such a horrible human being.

Oh I agree, the line moves over time though and are we going constantly edit who is in and who isn't? He got in 40 years ago, Hitler comments are never cool but it was a different time and obviously nobody cared about the abuse or he would have not been elected.
Aren't the people who elected him the ones to answer why he's in?

Ugh. Hitler does seem like the kinda guy with lots of unpaid parking tickets. As if I didn’t dislike him enough already.

Yeah, it wasnt directed specifically at you, just that he's been inducted into grander 'Halls' that have also ignored his indiscretions.

I honestly think the NHL hands are tied. Sad as it is. No one came forward to press charges let alone get him convicted. The Hitler comments are not enough.
Don’t get me wrong its not what should happen, but if the NHL removes him you never know who will sue. His estate probably wants his image and rights going for all its worth.
I think what needs to be done is encouraging victims to come forward and press charges. To support them. Also to say eff that guy whenever his name comes up.
Not that Bobby cares in his words he enjoyed his ride.

It’s not like it was a secret. His former wife and daughter talked about it publicly. He was arrested during a domestic abuse after hitting his more recent wife in the face and cutting her open.
I don’t think encouraging victims to come forward is the problem.

Bad enough being Brett Hull’s dad.

Pretty remarkable how he sullied an illustrious hockey career to the extent that on a hockey board almost no mention of his feats as a player, how he played, etc. I didn't know all this stuff about him but seems like he undermined his own legacy.

I was on the fence until this point was brought up. Now I'm convinced. Hitler is bad.

I’m relieved to finally see something like this happen, personally. And it’s not just CP.

There's a lot of dubious characters in the Hall.
Alan Eagleson was removed only because he swindled the other dubious characters.

They would pretty well need to remove everyone before 1960 if they wanted to make it so there were no homophobes, racists, antisemites in the hall of fame.
