This could be a fair deal if he re-signs for decent number. If he walks it's an absolute faceplant for the Islanders.
It is the exact player they need.

If they can re-sign him to a reasonable deal then maybe it works, but my guess is Horvat might want to test UFA at this point. No reason to sign unless its an overpay
Well if its a rental that changes things, but im gunna go ahead and assume this trade wasnt for a rental (ie Isles plan on signing him)

Raty and Beauvillier will be lucky to have 50% of the impact Bo does

Weren’t the Isles interested in Gaudreau / Kadri as well? Looks like they wanted a top six forward / center

I think this is a stretch unless more context is provided. He has very high potential, but he has a lot to prove before he is a good NHL player. Let alone near Horvats level.

(I’m also fully assuming he signs there. If this is purely a rental then I agree, it’s too much).

Raty is such a good/interesting prospect. Taken 7 sports after Stromgren. 5 or so spots after Stankoven. Was formerly projected to be a top 5 pick.

But he’s not exactly lighting up the AHL. Zary and Pelletier out produce him.

Honestly they should have traded both but I think Miller is probably better going forward than non-contract year Horvat .... although I wouldn't build around either.

Fair, but given the rumors of him not necessarily being the best locker room presence, that was a head scratcher.

They're eventually going to trade JT Miller, too, once he has a stretch of success and the current news cycle of dysfunction fades in people's memories. Which he will, at some point, I think - basically he'll go above PPG for three months in a stretch next season and they'll get a first and a prospect out of him or something.

Raty is a Cole Schwindt level prospect.

middle 6 winger; prospect with 3rd line upside and a lottery protected 1st for a #1 center

If the Isles sign Horvat, then it is a great deal for them

Horvats numbers would have dipped with Toch behind the bench so they sold high as soon as they could which was the smart thing to do.

No way JT Miller produces the same number under this coach. He wants to win 2-1 and manage the puck.

Lamoriello is terrible. Almost like a plague on that franchise.

That's not true. He was a huge faller in his draft year and has rebounded very nicely since. Similar to Kylington, but a big centre.

I'm shocked NYI parted with him.

Probably harder to move Miller due to his reputation.... Wait until closer to deadline, when teams miss out on certain targets and get desperate.

So if its top 12 protected hope is islanders miss playoffs and it carries over to next year, horvst leaves, and they fall off next year

I don't think it's wrong to suggest that Raty's most likely outcome is bottom 6. He probably has 2C upside.

Wonder if they will continue their claim of "retooling" and use that extra first as a trade chip to acquire roster players.

Wow. The Isles were the last team I thought would get Horvat. At least he’s out east and not in the Pacific anymore

If Horvat signs that is a steal for the Islanders. There is a reason Raty dropped in his draft year, he is a meh prospect. Beauvillier is also a meh player, he is a 3rd line depth player. The 1st is ok but it is lottery protected and this helps the Islanders enough they can move up. So a B prospect, a 3rd line winger and a mid first for a top tier centre with leadership qualities. If it's a rental it's fair, if they sign him though they totally fleeced Vancouver.

Mike Keenan (rose to fame with the Flyers), became Canucks coach and shortly thereafter the Canucks captain is traded to the Islanders.

Rick Tocchet (rose to fame with the Flyers), became Canucks coach and shortly thereafter the Canucks captain is traded to the Islanders.
