Least surprising result ever. Once his side of the draw cleared up it was a fait accompli. I thought Tsitsipas would have lasted more than 3 hours though... yeesh.

The only players right now that I would trust to beat Djokovic are all injured or their careers have gone off the rails.. ..

Wawrinka
Thiem
Alcaraz
Nadal
Medvedev
Krygios

To clarify, Nadal can only beat Djokovic on clay. Hard Court and grass are probably out.

At this stages of their careers and given Nadals health your probably right, but Nadal has actually had a better career at the US Open than Djokovic.

I think Tsitsipas will be a multiple slam winner before his career is over, but his best chances will be at the French Open as the higher, slower bounce on Phillippe Chartier allows more time for his long swings on both wings. Of course, it's going to be a tough slog until Nadal and Djokovic retire.

For sure. For all of Djokovic's prowess on HC, his US open record is a definite head scratcher.

I really miss Thiem, he would have won several slams had he never injured his wrist. I remember he beat Djokovic in back to back French Opens and took Novak to 5 in the AO final. He also beat Nadal a bunch of times on clay and beat Federer as well. He is this generations Del Potro

I dunno dudes, I'm gonna be pessimistic and predict that we don't see another 1HBH slam winner again. it's just too exploitable by these guys that can metronome from both sides. and I don't think there's enough younglings being allowed to experiment with it anymore for us to see another genius emerge.

I agree. The OHBH is just too exploitable. You probably need to see a youngster with Popeye arms to see someone win consistently with a OHBH. It needs to be reliable, allow the wielder to change directions and should disguise a vicious slice. Otherwise it's just too exploitable.

I think Oikos has enough tools (no offense to Bweh) to overcome the 1HBH detriment. That said, he's not going to win any slams with how bad his forehand was against Djokovic last night. He has a big serve and I would rate his forehand as certainly top 5 on tour. He's an excellent mover and usually very good at the net (terrible at the net last night though). The other big thing he needs to work on though is the return of serve, he doesn't get enough balls back in play and when he does, it's often a sitter for an easy winner.

Funny to hear him critique the backhand. It is just so painfully obvious that the next wave of players need to develop a more well rounded arsenal of shots and tactics in order to push players like Novak for the next year or two.

It is just shocking how few of these current 3-15 ranked players even possess a slice that is decent, let alone something that can allow them to come forward or merely change up a rally.

Really, I think we are talking Alcaraz, Nadal and possibly PCB as the only ones that could use that shot effectively more than just a throw in once and while. Wailing away on topspin heavy baseline balls is just not going to cut it.

Didn't Federer say basically exactly this in his day-after press conference from Wimbledon 2017? I cannot find the interview anywhere but I'm pretty sure the message was, "look if you're just going to try to hit heavy balls from the baseline and try to beat us, good ####ing luck".
