Can probably get a 7th for him if we retain 50%. We should trade Vladar while we’re at it too! His value is super high right now. Surely we can just run with a Wolf/Elliott tandem.

You might be a little quick on that trigger.

I'm pretty sure there's teams that would still trade for current Marky. I know he hasn't been great this year but people acting like he has 0 value are exaggerating

Markstrom's total save percentage as a Flame, including the playoffs, is 90.9%.
League average save percentage over that time is 90.7%.
An argument can be made that the Flames generally prevent high danger chances and have been above-average defensively. Such is an identity of Sutter-coached teams with defensive depth.
Last year, his saves above expected was good, but not good enough to deserve being a Vezina candidate. This year, his saves above expected is actually slightly better than Vladars.
Overall, Markstrom has been an average goalie. Maybe a tad above average. Not worth his 6 million AAV. This is especially true when you consider the fact that he has 3 more years remaining and is about to age into his mid-thirties. Regression is obviously a lot more likely than progression at this point. As are injuries.
His performance is nowhere near bad enough to be talking about buyouts. But I also doubt he has much trade value (and with his contract limitations, a trade would be unlikely in the first place). Because of Vladar's extension, the cap hit of the goalies doesn't really matter. Either way, they're both locked in for 2 more years. Markstrom has one additional year. As such, there's no harm in making Vladar the starter if need be.

Coleman was awesome last night, same as the other two on his line. When they brought the puck in the o zone the D jumped up and was open in the slot for two great goals, one by Hanafin and one by Zadarov. If you have confidence to enter the neutral zone as a team of three you have a much better scoring chance than dump and chase.
Great game!

Probably should have done it to remind people how good it looks on the ice, because having seen a few around, it looks considerably worse on fans.

I like the reverse retro over the Blasty, it's so much sharper.

Looks so much better on the ice, for sure. The red shoulders do a lot to bring it out on a large ice surface. Where the Blasty full kit on ice just looks like a million full black jersey kits we've seen in the NHL over the years.

Like jayswin said: on the ice 100%
Unfortunately it just looks incredibly goofy as a fan jersey. Blasty wears a lot better for that.

Why does Calgary have such a long break?

They have their all star break and CBA mandated break back to back...that is why its longer than some teams

Hopefully they don't come back like every other time they have a long break.

He hasn't been up to his 7th highest paid goalie level for sure.
But when you look at it, about 22 goaltenders make around $5M (say $4.5+) or more and he's ranked 25th so it's not a huge cap leak in a league with top end skaters pushing $9M+ in most cities. (He's ranked 25th on Moneypuck for GSAA)
I hope he bounces back to his usual level, his salary isn't a huge issue.
Flames are lucky to have a great back up on a decent ticket as well.

You could always be paying Sergei Bobrovsky $10 million a year for another 4 years. Wanna trade?

Markstrom isn’t really overpaid by much, if at all, when you look at goalie salaries. He’s in a big pack between 5 and 6.5M that has a whole bunch of goalies worse than him.
What could more easily argue is that all goalies tend to get overpaid for a very few seasons of success. Look at Bob, or Gibson, or Murray. Binnington looks to be the same. Really only Vasilevskiy and Hellebuyck have consistently good numbers, out of the higher paid goalies.
At the end of the day, Calgary is paying a total of 8.2 starting next year for two pretty decent goalies. So that’s OK in my books.
