agree the numbers are not eye popping, but I feel this is a good choice- he does not weaken the standard at 3B in my opinion, probably amongst the strongest of a group of 3B that were all really good (but eclipsed by the likes of Schmidt, Brett, Boggs, Jones) but most not HOF candidates (Rolen benefiting by newer appreciation of their skillsets)over my decades of watching the sport- including the recently deceased Sal Bando, Graig Nettles, Darrel Evans, Buddy Bell...

I remember when Jamie Campbell called EE, E5 in his lineup intro.

And to be fair. EE was E5 when he was a 3B.

Well he passes the WAR test at 70.2 bWAR.

Hopefully with another induction not focused on counting stats it will bode well for Votto when his time comes. His socials alone are Hall worthy.

And C'mon veterans committee(or whatever it goes by now). For the love of Ruth put Carlos Delgado in the Hall.

Rolen was an interesting one. Baseball has really high standards, and Rolen really didn't stand out in any given year if I recall, as one of the players you build around. I suppose he was solid, and great defensively (especially for a big guy), but I wouldn't have thought he'd make the baseball HOF. ARod I thought would based on a fairly long career, but his PED use wasn't good. I'd have just passed on everyone this year. Wasn't a great pool.

The Blue Jays are signing outfielder Wynton Bernard to a minor league deal, reports Robert Murray of FanSided (on Twitter). The 32-year-old will be in big league Spring Training as a non-roster invitee.
Quote:
At long last, he earned that desired call late last summer. Bernard had mashed at a .333/.387/.590 clip through 108 games with the Rox’s top affiliate in Albuquerque, connecting on 21 home runs and stealing 30 bases in 35 tries. The Rockies brought him up in mid-August, where he got some limited runtime in the outfield. He appeared in 12 MLB games, hitting .286/.286/.310 over his first 42 trips to the plate. Colorado ran him through outright waivers at the end of the year, sending him back to minor league free agency.
Quote:
Bernard is an excellent runner who’s capable of covering all three outfield spots. He’ll slot in behind Nathan Lukes — who was added to the 40-man roster at the start of the offseason — as a speed/defense depth outfielder. Bernard figures to open the season with Triple-A Buffalo. He still has two option years remaining, so the Jays would be able to shuttle him between Toronto and Buffalo if he claims a 40-man spot at any point.

Kinda flown under the radar, but according to Bob McCowan, Anunoby doesn't want to be part of the team anymore. I have to admit I hope it's true. The package according to rumors could be large. Totally willing to go there.

Stopped in, and glad I did, for a Raptors drop in the Jays thread by a username bluejays.

Also, Raptors are the most interesting team coming up to the deadline, for those that want to add discourse to the NBA thread! Feb 9th deadline.

Right field is the only real change I see when it comes to extra home runs. Being brought in that much is fairly substantial. Springer should make some steals at the wall, as with anyone playing RF. The rest is just marketing. Sure we’ll see the occasional ricochet against the wall but the dimensions are not that jagged enough where it’ll be a true lottery of where it’s going to land. Meh. I’m just very enamoured with how much difference this defensive first OF is going to look. To me it’s very an interesting theory they’re going with, which I’m very itchy to see if it works.

Changes seem pretty marginal overall. But I don’t like increasing wall heights. Athletic catches at the wall are fun to watch and I assume these changes reduce that possibility even more?

8 foot high wall at straightaway CF will see some pretty exciting catches.

Once in a blue moon I'd think. Balls aren't generally hit there and the CFer normally doesn't play to that depth.

I think most CF wall scrapers are once in a blue moon. But until this season, more rare at Rogers Center then most parks
