Canadian Tire had snow shoes on clearance. No excuses!

Seriously though, I nabbed a pair for my wife and I for $30 a pair, down from $100. I think at this price it pays for itself after two uses or so (vs renting snow shoes).

EDIT:

At $40, this seems like a better deal as it comes with a tote and poles.

Sounds like highway at Carstairs is closed going north due to an accident. Detour happening onto 2A and obviously very slow.

The roads are pretty brutal out there, and it seems fine until you try to stop. I can only imagine how fun rush hour will be later this afternoon.

The wind stopped and the snow let up a bit so I did end up going for a run. Traction was actually better on snow than it was on the plowed pavement. Snow is very slick.

The pathways are gorgeous with all this heavy snow on the trees. Especially around the river.

Roads looked pretty crappy though. Rip commuters.

Why did I make plans tonight and tomorrow when this stuff is going to deep freeze?

Because its January in Alberta and this was liable to happen at any moment?

Just got home to the deep south from Signal Hill area. It is actually kind of fun out there right now. Glad I won't be out there during rush hour though.

Yeah, this kind of weather/road conditions are an absolute blast to drive around in...it's all the OTHER drivers on the road that worry me.

True. It's actually pretty fun

It's when other vehicles enter the equation that that changes

any one of them could be a tailgater or white knuckler

Just made it out to Canmore. Some blowing snow and very low visibility at points but not too bad overall.

Drive to Nakiska this morning was dog####. Hwy 40 wasn't plowed yet, so that was fun. Coming home was decent.

Highway 22X and Highway 22 are both pretty sketchy south and west of the city and are only going to get worse as it gets colder and snows more. Drive safe out there!

Drove home from DT to Mahogany. Decided to take the back way. Was like driving on 4 completely different days. DT - Glenmore, slushy wet roads. Glenmore to 114, a little hard packed snow. 114 to McKenzie Towne, crazy frozen slush washboard with ruts. Stoney to home, deep powdery snow.

I made it! Took almost 5 hrs, and Google Maps had me avoid the Carstairs accident by putting me on sketchy country roads that I thought would be only a few minutes, but lasted over 100 km's all the way until maybe 5 km before Gasoline Alley haha, wasn't expecting that! After that it was smooth sailing, roads were bare from there.

Let the weekend shenanigans commence...careful out there guys, it's definitely sketchy in the city.
