If Tanev is out for awhile, this teams playoff chances become severely jeopardized.

My guess is he might have been told that he needs to be a better partner with the media and communications staff here and help a bit more with the Flames brand. Not like every game is a sell out anymore and honestly think the fan base isnt as strong as it once was.
Dont think it's a coincidence John Bean was in his media availability the other day.
And honeslty its good. When he's in a good mood he can be so insightful and engaging, issue is it felt like he would show that once a month before.
|
Fan base is absolutely nowhere near as good as it was especially prior to COVID. Multiple factors (some of them good / fair reasons) for that IMO).

Hopefully he’s back shortly after the break.
…otherwise Raz, Hanifin, Weegs, and Zadarov are going to have to get used to 28 minutes a night each.
Also, I think the system and depth is strong enough to be without Tanev for a while.

Like, I'm just wondering if maybe people should stop focusing directly on Looch himself and focus more on the overall production of that line.

That would be positive thinking though.
Nah.

Agreed. Speaking of poker, hard to read Darryl's face. Didn't seem overly concerned?
Darryl is totally different on practice days and the media must know it by now.
I was always a bit easier on Francis but man his act is tiring. Would not miss him at all if he moved on.

Flames (once again for back-to-back seasons) have been very fortunate on the injury end. Aside from Kylington not being around, the roster from Day 1 has been close to healthy every game this season.
Injuries are inevitable, and may come in bunches. This is where you hope the depth pays off, and players that have to step up take advantage.

Agree, but Tanev is their best player, so that’s a not something depth can correct.

He's an important player, a lynchpin, a glue guy, but he's nowhere near their best player. I probably don't put him top 5 on this team.

Top 5?! Lol
Personally, I think he’s their best player, but understand there’s room for debate. What’s their record again with him in / out of the roster? Dude is a shut down machine, does it all really. Maybe not an offensive threat too much, but is absolutely mission critical.

I would say Tanev is one of the top 5 best players on the roster. Anderson may be more dynamic with his offensive skills, but Tanev is a solid rock on the back end that defends better than anyone else on the roster.

He's a good defender and all, but he's had a few off nights this year in that regard. But he adds no offense at all. I appreciate what he does on the back end and penalty killing, and all that is very important, but he plays half of the ice.
Guys like Lindholm, Andersson, and Backlund do more at both ends of the ice. Guys like Toffoli, Huberdeau, and Kadri add quite a bit of offense while playing solid defensively.
As I said, he's a lynchpin for the structure and role of all the defensemen, and he plays important and big minutes. I'm not taking that away from him, I just rank other guys as better players overall.

If you need to hold a lead, you want Tanev on the ice. If you're pressing to win the game, he's not on the ice.

Agreed. I think we have to put a more skilled player on that line rather than watch Looch try to play with pubes, he just isn't a 2nd line player.

Finally got around to that Sutter interview. Amazing stuff, and yeah - I could listen to him go for hours like that. Love it.
