It's weird that the fancy lawyers are K.C instead of Q.C. now.

Well, there seems to be at least an implication that they're taking instructions from the government, which would impugn their integrity, as it suggests they're not independent and are in some way lapdogs.

I don't really understand your comment about a "definitive judgment", though. What is it that you think they're definitively judging? The statement is opposed to definitive judgment - i.e., stop alleging that something improper happened unless you have some evidence that shows that something improper happened.

Isn't the implication that the government is attempting to influence crown prosecutors, irrespective of whether the crown prosecutors are being influenced or telling them to pound sand?

Frankly it kind of seems like the crown prosecutors were told influenced by the Government to tell the media to pound sand since everybody conveniently was singing from the same song sheet on the same day after the "investigation".

I had assumed this was just the driveway yelling incident, but after reading the Twitter thread, it seems he is up for 3 separate incidents? The UCP is a clown car.

Isn’t witness testimony a form of evidence?

The concept that the CBC has no evidence because they have seen the email doesn’t seem to be correct.

That is the issue, but if that had happened and the crown prosecutors kept silent about it, that would reflect poorly on them, and even more so if it happened and they kept silent about it in the face of these media reports.

No, not if it's anonymous. That's why there is a hearsay rule. Of course, that's a legal standard and this is obviously a matter of journalism where sources don't always need to be named, so it's a different arena.

The question is more whether or not it's reasonable to go to print with just what they had. I don't think the answer to that is clear. It doesn't seem like they attempted to get a comment from the influencees (or attempted influencees).

For me, the answer to the question about whether or not this was responsible journalism depends on the reliability of the sources CBC had, which depends on their identity, which for understandable reasons we probably aren't going to learn. But I can certainly understand the perspective of the Crown in making that statement.

So do we just ignore the fact that Smith is on video multiple times saying she interfered with the judiciary? Was she lying then, or is she lying now? Which lie is the truth? Is there any consequences for her? Or does she just skate off, lying like the lying liar she has always been?

I'm no lawyer, but I don't think that "I wasn't crying, I was emotional!" is a particularly strong legal argument for the Health Minister to be yelling at a private citizen in his driveway.

Where is Shandro's Driveway? Perhaps some 'Turnabout is Fair Play?'

^ Shandy wasn't crying in his own driveway, he was crying in the private citizen's driveway...

I know. Thats why I'm advocating that Private Citizens congregate in Shandro's driveway and harass him.

Hence: 'Turnabout is Fair Play.'

Ah got it. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Does it make a difference if people are crying? I don't really understand why Shandy's defence is focused on that detail (unless he's just generally trying to discredit the account).

I am not a conspiracy theorist but unless the CBC comes back with some additional evidence and information regarding the email's, I may now be leaning towards this being a set up by Smith's office to plug leakers? If Smith's and her office are suspecting some people of leaking to the media, you plant a story within the office and it makes it to the media, than you know who planted the story?

This scenario with Smith and the anti vax/anti lockdown/mandate crowd is getting more and more strange. No doubt about it that she recruited and went after their vote hard. Right or wrong, her message resonated with a lot of people from that side. One elected as leader and now as Premier, she's really turned her back on them. Almost everything that was discussed and promised has been dropped in essence. She may be on video describing she did this and that and will look after the issue but if it turns out there is little evidence she even tried, didn't even have someone write a single email (right or wrong) than it's even more perplexing.

Regardless, like a lot of people say, AB Politics is always interesting.

Smith herself gave rise to the story from what she herself said and backtracked over and over.

If this mishmash of 'own goals' is a plot to catch leakers, it is quite possibly the dumbest scheme ever unfurled upon the Albertan electorate.
