Putting the Boudreau debacle aside, the biggest head scratching thing about Rick Tocchet is...why?
He's never played for the Canucks.
He is a career sub 500 coach with 9 playoff game experience.
He has a sketchy twitter account and dubious gambling past that got him 2 years probation.
And Canucks ownership paid him more then Boudreau.
It also doesn't sound like Canucks shopped around, but had their eyes on him for whatever reason and had him already selected weeks ahead.
Who the heck goes and says: "Hey you know what our team need to win and put us to the top? No no not the 1000 game and plus .600 percentage guy we already have that is a fan favourite. That guy Rick Tocchet who had a gambling ring. And let's sign him for 2.5 years"

It’s all Rutherfords guys from his Penguins days. Gonchar and Tocchet were Assistant Coaches in Pittsburgh. Boudreau was hired a few days before Rutherford, Rutherford wanted his guys, tried to make life miserable for Bruce, and then finally canned him for his guys.
