I think there is truth in the middle of Francis' story. Some here are so averse to anything Francis says that they instantly dismiss it as irrational nonsense, when in this case he does have a point. Sutter can be a miserable S.O.B. with the media, and he will never dive into their attempts at forming some sort of narrative. They, the media, want a feel good Pelletier story, and Sutter is innately conditioned to do exactly the opposite of what the media wants. However, love it or hate it the fans do want to hear Pelletier fluff pieces, or at least some segment, and the media have to write about something and the Pelletier angle is basically a lay up.

Sutter is also right, Pelletier played 7 minutes, is earning his spot on this team, and in the league. He is a rookie on a team Sutter is desperately trying to instill a culture of accountability and intense work ethic. So playing 7 minutes in an NHL game is not going to move the needle much for Sutter. And he is not going to shower praise on a rookie for, well, anything. The Wins are the praise. Sutter is not here to soothe egos. Sutter has also earned his right to do what he wants, it has brought him success. You don't win two cups by accident, you win it by staying true to your system and your approach. His approach will not adapt to Pelletier's needs, or Francis'. This is Sutter's team. I for one love it.

There is zero chance any player or propsect would do that.

Guess some people just want fluff pieces and the Derek Wills kind of stuff. I mean I dont agree with everything Francis says but least hes not afraid to call stuff out. Hes right more than hes wrong and people just hate to admit it.

Thats why.

The only thing missing is Sutter keying Pelletier's car and kicking his dog.

So you're not saying he can dictate an NHL spot for next season then? So staying in school would take two full years (plus the gap from this season) and not one.

What I said was I think theres no way they can gaurantee him a spot in the show next season. You are basically confirming that.

I dont thinkhe makes the team next season out of the gate, and he probably knows that. So if he has a low chance of making the team hes more likely to play another season at harvard. And then after that he only has one season left to get his degree and shortly after rfa.

I hope he signs this after this season, and again not paranoid but if he doesnt sign this summer, i can see him going the Fox route.

Your entitled to a different opinion, but not really sure what your taking offense to or where im saying something that is wrong.

Almost everything Sutter says in a post game presser is deflection or misdirection. His off days pressers are where he actually opens up a bit and you can hear what he really thinks.

Thread has a long ways to go yet mate. This is all rather peaceful and polite compared to the old Usenet days. Anyway it's well known that the only way to win a forum thread these days is to post classified info

Instead I learned that I work in an industry of hazing and masogynists, that my website is dated and full of boomers, and that I'm not a real fan. On the other side we question those that haven't played the game, we call people snow flakes, and we suggest a person is becoming the next Eric Francis.

Not a banner day.

I may need a break from this place.
OTC Bingo...I think the Boomers have no issue with Darryl's comments at all as most of us have learned that a thick skin is just a "good to have" at times.

If I had taken offence to every comment made my way over the past decades...well....sheesh, I wouldn't even want to be part of any group of people ever.

Adversity? Players are supposed to be able to deal with it. Not sure that words in a presser count as "adversity" though.

One of the best games of the season and all that happens in the PGT is a lot of whiny complainy crap.

Think I'll take a break from them after this, except for reading the ATLs (thanks Gaskal!).

Completely agree, and it is amazing and clever.

I know Francis might think Animal Farm is about animals, but he certainly writes like it is and anyone that follows him is taking the bait. The guy is the definition of a hack. Its a shocker how many folks on here aren't realizing it anymore.

Hack (comedy): Hacks in the comedy world, or writing arena, are all about finding the lowest common denominator to get a laugh, or sell a book. Hacks are hacks because they don’t create work from the heart.

The only thing un-hacky about Francis is him playing the contrarian trope, just asking the questions, playing devils advocate, etc. *Barf* It'd be cool if any of it wasn't just straight from a formula.

Wasn't taking offence to anything.

He's a more well thought of prospect than either Zary or Pelletier were, including being discussed as the best American player at the summer tournament that included Hughes.

So I think he could make the team.

But the biggest thing is getting the two years over by the end of the 23-24 season, something he couldn't do in Harvard.

Genuinely curious, do users not know how to increase the number of posts per page or do they prefer having smaller pages but having to click through dozens of pages? I'm on page 12.

I was thinking the exact thing. For all we know, Sutter loves what Pelletier brought to the game. But perhaps he wants to keep expectations in check and knows what the pressure could be like for a young player who's had a great deal of success in the AHL come to the NHL.

Sutter is a fine coach

Until he started losing then it’s intolerable

I really do like CP because I don't have Flames fans as IRL friends and here I can read other fans opinions of the team, games played, etc. A lot of hockey smart people and insightful discussions, I really appreciate this forum.
But PGTs like this are one of the main reasons I have shifted to using Reddit more. I don't mind people being upset with Sutter, he could've swallowed his pride and give the media what they wanted, but was it still necessary to blow up this thread with this? This discussion could have taken place in the venting thread, or maybe Sutter deserves his own.

I honestly thought that for once we get a happy thread with happy people, hyping the most solid win of the season, being happy for Pelletier making his debut (a very solid debut!) but no. Some tried to talk about the game, but the posts drowned right away. It's a shame because like I said, I really enjoy reading the discussion around the team and I have also learned a lot from you guys. But I guess I'm just not a good fit in here.
I have no idea what I'm trying to accomplish with this, I just had to let it all out. Again. And then I just realized I could've posted this to the venting thread. Oh well.

I'm with you, I'm on Reddit a lot more than CP lately, partially because I enjoy interacting with other teams fans, but mostly because people there are having fun, people here are mad all the time.

Slowly but surely sticking to the off-topic forum here more often than not these days
