That may have been the best 60 minutes of hockey the Flames put forth all season. Spicey, bent and didn't break, special teams were absolute clutch when they needed to shut er down.
I don't really care about Sutters media schtick. I generally dislike the Flames media coverage circle. I like the barn burner guys and Ryan Leslie, that's about it.
That being said, sure would be a lot nicer if CP would calm it's jugs and just enjoy what may be the most complete W of the year.

Well, I'm still awake after all, so ... I'll add I thought Noah Hanifin and Tyler Toffoli had terrific games. Toffoli has had a great season after a so-so finish last year. One of only a few guys living up to expectations — and I'd say he's surpassing mine. Might score 30.
Also, Walker Duehr is playing above my expectations. I am a little skeptical he keeps it up but he's showing a lot of confidence in the offensive zone. His speed is a huge asset.

Nice that they want to rally around their own, but maybe they could just try to ask better questions, since Sutter has also shown he’s more than happy to answer those in great detail.

It appears he is getting them to elevate their 200-foot reporting games as well. Life coach/career coach Sutter is out here whooping everybody into shape. Not just the players
The sarcastic curveballs are just nudging them along to reflect on their approach. When they hit on a passable question, they're rewarded with a genuine answer. Conditioning.

Thank you for talking hockey!!
Totally agree. Ha if I'm (edit: Hanifin!) had had his tough moments (who hasn't?). Today wasn't one of them.
Really liked the character comeback.

I assume, by Ha if I'm, you mean Hanifin. I thought we'd exhausted all the possible Hanifin misspellings but I was wrong! Silly autocorrect.
Yeah, the defence was really solid all around today. Weegar was good. Tanev had a couple big blocks. Rasmus was fantastic.
I know some people earlier were talking about Lucic having a good game and while it was a neat throwback to see him drop the gloves, the only other play of his I can really remember is him picking up the puck in the corner of the offensive zone at one point and proceeding to miss the net so badly the puck rimmed around the boards all the way back to the Flames' end. Something to be said for shot selection. Other than that I don't think he helped or hurt them much.
Vladar was very solid. The second and third TB goals were simply fortunate and I think he's earned the next start.
I wonder if we might see Ruzicka reinserted next to Huberdeau and Kadri at some point. He looked really good up there before.

Love Walker Duehr. Even if he can't produce a lot of offence I still like his game on the fourth line better than most that have played there the last three years. There's something about his game that just fits the NHL. And I think the points will come if he plays the way he does.

Yeah even I'm impressed at how well he's translated so far, and I wasn't a huge fan of his game in the A. Some guys just make that jump look easy.
The key will be sustaining it. Ruzicka looked good in the top six, got bumped, and then couldn't really hack it consistently on L4. Duehr won't play higher than he is right now but he still needs to earn his keep. Otherwise there are a lot more guys yearning for that spot.

Seriously, let’s put aside the “but everybody asks it!” question. You watched the game and saw Pelletier play. Giving the game as a whole, was anything he did worth asking about if not to adhere to the social convention of asking the question?
|
Personally i would have asked why after having an impressive first period the 4th line was benched in the second and why Pelletier only played just over 6 minutes.
But I'm sure Sutter would have responded better to that right?
Sutter was lobbed the easiest soft ball question tonight and made a meal of it. Its ridiculous to say the question was the issue, and that Sutter was right to mock it.
If he wanted there was some good insight he could have provided into what he looks for when these guys make their debuts, and what Pelletier brought to the game. Or he could have just made the generic "not bad for his first NHL game, lots to work on" response. Instead he acted like a troll.

Lucic is such a conundrum
On one hand, intellectual honesty says he has no business playing where he is
On the other hand, he's doing better there relative to anybody else that's played on huberdeau's opposite wing to this point, and the numbers back it up

Lucic was a 1st line player . 2nd line player makes him second line player . Not hard math . He went from Marchand and Bergeron to McDavid to huberdeau and kadri. Math is hard ......

Yep, Lucic hasn't looked bad on that line and he's got goals and points. Only problem is that's two huge players for us that need to be a on a top line in the NHL if we're going to contend.
I see Pelletier complementing that line much better from day one and only going up from there.

Lol what devil's "math" is this?
he was on 3rd and 4th lines plenty too
Edmonton cycles yesterday's trash and stray cats off the street on its top line
Yes, he was a top line forward in the B's run ... 12 years ago

This is dumb. There's a few steps in his downward career trajectory between what you're describing, c'mon. And that's coming for a Lucic fan.

Yeah that's the place where I think it makes sense to put a skilled scoring prospect. Putting Lucic there and having that line be fine is one thing. But you need to optimize things and have one truly dominant offensive unit to be a dangerous team. And although Lucic has had an amazing career, he hasn't been and isn't going to be that catalyst.
You're not going to recapture the magic of 13-28-19 but I don't think they can afford to be complacent with 10-91-17, either.

Ignoring about a four season stretch where he was on the 4th line in both Calgary and Edmonton there.
Hes been fine on that line but in this stage of his career you cant expect him to sustain it and ideally he's a 4th liner.
He was better than his last two games tonight, but still not as good as when he was first put on that line.
And after the hot start that line is starting to be pretty average. 2 GF, 2 GA and a sub 50% xGF% in the last 5 games.
Dube-Lindholm-Toffoli and Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman have really clicked, and Duehr/Lewis/Ruzicka/Pelletier seem to be good on the 4th line rotation so far, but for this team to make the playoffs we need more from Huberdeau and Kadri and I dont think that happens with Lucic on their wing.

Don't know if you noticed but farmers are not getting it done. We had .5 million acres and we had to sell because commercial farming got it done better.
Farmers aren't farmers any more . Farmer now means cooperation.
Don't know 8f you know but these days its just getting your head above water or selling out to the biggest corp to still come out in debt. Families been ther 1 million acres to nothing due to crop pricing.
