Francis wrote a nice long article calling Sutter indecent/inhumane lol
Surely he understands Sutter better than that by now ... just trying to stir up chaos it looks like
Eric going in Sutter's media doghouse next?
Looking forward to the follow up

He is going to be the perfect line mate for Huberdeau. I know that. I went back and watched so much footage of Huberdwau last year to see what was working and why a 115 point player was suddenly looking to produce half that.
Pelletier checks every box. He's fast, he's intelligent and gets open, while aptly reading what his line mates are doing, and is a left shot. That is the exact type of player that Huberdeau needs to put up points. And he looked more than ready to read and get open at the NHL level in his first game.

100% agreement here as well. I watched a lot of Huberdeau over the past 5-6 years. He just hasn't found the right linemates yet. Pelletier is the perfect type of player for him to succeed with at 5 on 5.

Wow. Huge difference between pumping tires and being blatantly disrespectful. I don't give two $hits what he said to him in person, what you do and say in public matters, the guy is a kid.
Also talk about being tone def, you think having to deal with this crap is good optics for other youngsters? They don't even have Coranoto signed, whether his "schtick" matters or not to him, Darryl and management need to be conscious of the perception of how young players are treated in the org. Especially after Fox, who's a top dman in the league, exercised his right as a collegiate hockey player to leverage demanding out.
That answer was absolutely absurd and by far his worst most embarrassing sound bite of the season, and he's had a lot of them.

Really hope you're right. If Pelletier can break out and also get Huberdeau going, this team becomes a real threat. The main thing they are missing is that big scoring line up front.

Draft Pick

For what it’s worth, as a longtime lurker, I’ll share my thoughts on tonight’s presser. The Flames have been struggling for consistency all season long and the media (and fans) have been looking for a solution/saviour. The amount of fan and media hype that “free Phillips” received is evidence of this (and I’m actually a Phillips fan).
Sven Baertschi came in like fire and all the saviour hype followed and those expectations all but destroyed that kid’s career.
My read is that Darryl is keenly aware of the frustration and anxiousness of the fan base on a season that is going much more inconsistently than pundits and general fans predicted. This need for “Youngblood” to save the season is being exploited/exasperated by the media looking for clicks and quick solutions (Salim, Francis, etc).
Pelletier does not need to be the headline nor the focus as he adjusts to the NHL. I feel as though the fan base and media are looking for the “missing piece” to save this season. I genuinely believe that Pelletier is a player and will be an impactful part of the team in the future, but he is not the only thing the Flames have been missing in order to be successful/competitive. The team as a whole need to be more consistent and effective, rookies and Jakob aside. Without Darryl de-railing this narrative of a highly successfully AHL rookie being the missing ingredient for the success of the season, I worry that the pressure on Pelletier is too much for his future development, just like what happened to Sven.
The kid had a solid debut. He didn’t cause the win. He wouldn’t have caused the loss. The story, especially with all the distractions already, shouldn’t be about one rookie.
Long story short, the Flames played a great game against the Lightening, and while Pelletier executed himself well in his debut, he was not the central story of this game and nor should he have been.
IMO the only flaw with Darryl is that he came across as awkward and clumsy as the media that consistently “reports” on this team.

I actually think it’s interesting that Sutter openly mocked the media with that response and many of them reacted by completely trashing Sutter and misrepresenting the focus of his mockery as Pelletier instead. A little misdirection from guys who have gotten a little too used to asking “the same thing that gets asked every game” in my opinion. Nice that they want to rally around their own, but maybe they could just try to ask better questions, since Sutter has also shown he’s more than happy to answer those in great detail.

Did those two ex players even watch the game?
Who cares what they think anyway? That’s the problem with Twitter. No one cares.

They could be genuine, but if so they haven’t been paying attention the last two years. Other than a clunky delivery that he might regret, tonight’s performance is consistent with what he’s being doing the whole time since he returned.

It's really not fair to say these reporters haven't been paying attention. People are being weirdly religious about this.

And now we need to see Darryl Sutter in a Pope hat.

Go look at the list of PPG players in the AHL for the last 10 years.
This isn't the next Johnny Gaudreau making his debut. It's someone with a lot of potential, who I hope to hell turns out great. But there's just as real of a chance that he's off to Europe in a few years as there is he lands as a fixture on the top line in his future.

Well that’s the point. His comments are unremarkable if you’ve watched his post games the last two years, which they obviously have.
And disagreeing with the frame that his comments were “completely unacceptable.” is not being weirdly religious. It’s just a debate on a message board, and you’re adamantly on the other side. Strangely I agree with most of your takes on here, I just think you’re wrong on this one.

Guys like Jason Robertson, Drake Batherson, Josh Norris, Alex Formenton, carter Varhaeghe, Victor Olafson, Miko Rantanen. Are those the AHL point producers you are talking about?

To me this is a bigger issue for a guy like Coronato or other young players might have to sign in the next 12 months.
Sutter can have conversations with Pelletier behind the scenes sure...but if youre Matthew Coronato who is also an undersized forward do you look at the way he talks about Phillips and Pelletier in the media, see the ways he speaks about their size, and see how tough its been for them to get in the lineup and go "The Flames organization is the best place for my development as a player and for me to have success in the NHL"
I dont think so.

Lol, the mood of the players? Or the mood of the media?
