How many games did Raffi Torres play in the NHL? We need to hear from the real experts!

Yes. Even on this very page.
Edit: well, I guess not on this very page, because I've inadvertently started a new one. Boy this thread has been a real humdinger.

Yeah, special teams played a huge part in fourth line ice time tonight. I suspect that whole line would have been up near ten mins if not for the parade to the box on both sides.

It’s twitter so I’m sure there are Flames alumni singing the same tune if you want to find them. Everyone has an opinion. Sutter is consistently an ass to the media, if you follow the team closely you know this. I read the comment as another example of that. You read it as a tasteless rebuke of a young player.
My opinion is that Wes and Darren are being deliberately obtuse in order to garner twitter attention and likes, which is to their benefit.
I think Laraque and Lapierre spend zero time thinking about the Flames and are devoid of context on the issue, and probably inclined to think negatively about the team given their previous affiliations.

This really doesn't fit with the kind of people they are and the kind of writing they do. This isn't Francis.

That was actually completely unintentional. I surprise myself sometimes.

When I lived in Calgary, I loved it. I come back and visit to see friends as well.
This is one of those times with the combined reaction of a lot of posters on this board (who I'm assuming reside in Calgary) that I feel the city needs to get with the times.
This is 2023. Do Better. Think Better. People on this board are making excuses for Darryl like I would for my baby boomer father. Fact of the matter is- the age of the boomers is done with. Need to move on and stop living in an archaic age.
+Literally Scorp is one of the most reasonable posters on this board and the shots that some of you take at him in this thread show you have no class yourself.

He is going to be the perfect line mate for Huberdeau. I know that. I went back and watched so much footage of Huberdwau last year to see what was working and why a 115 point player was suddenly looking to produce half that.
Pelletier checks every box. He's fast, he's intelligent and gets open, while aptly reading what his line mates are doing, and is a left shot. That is the exact type of player that Huberdeau needs to put up points. And he looked more than ready to read and get open at the NHL level in his first game.

Yup 100%, talked about the same thing after the game

The honest answer is he's not one of my pets on thr 4th line so I played him 6 minutes instead of the usual 12 I give them when it's Lucic and Rithcie so he didn't get a chance to do much.
The best answer was he was ok tonight but he's a young player who has a bright future but a lot more work to put in.
Not who is he?
|
Ritchie averages under 10. And in December was closer to 8. In fact Lucic averages less than 12 and he’s only that high because of his recent elevation (and because he tends to stay out too long).
For reference, Duehr has averaged just under 8,

I appreciate the shoutout and compliment but I would like to just say that despite the length and turmoil of this thread, the vast majority of the exchanges I've had within have been completely tactful disagreements.
Signing off but I hope we can return to the actual hockey talk tomorrow.

Bruce Dowbiggin loathed Sutter during his first tenure here, probably because he was an ass back then too. I honestly don’t think he’s changed that much, but the media and information environment that he operates in has.

I’ll say this — as was noted, this isn’t the first time Darryl has given an abrupt, snarky answer to one of Salim’s questions. Other reporters have had similar exchanges with him at times (poor Kristen Anderson). I’m personally not a fan of Salim for reasons I won’t get into here; interestingly, I went and looked at Salim’s Twitter and he recently noted that he and Darryl have had some “pleasant interactions off-camera”:
https://twitter.com/user/status/1612177239818506243
Now, I don’t know if something happened recently to sour the relationship (I doubt it since the answer he gave to Salim a few days ago — about Pelletier no less — was quite positive and informative). But what I do know is (i) I’m not surprised in the least that Sutter wasn’t interested in gushing about Pelletier’s debut today, and (ii) Sutter hates taking about the performance of individual players to the media, especially young players who are still developing. Depending on the context it makes for an interesting news story — Francis was on it immediately— but this fits Sutter’s MO like a glove (whether its still viable in today’s NHL is open for debate, and judging by the reactions here there are plenty on both sides).
P.S: If you watch the presser, he was asked about becoming the Flames coaching wins leader today. He couldn’t care less about that — instead he talked about Game 7 against Tampa and how he wanted to win that one. There is only one thing Sutter wants to accomplish and — like it or hate it — that’s how he’s going to go about his business.

No, you come on. Why even have press conferences then? Why do we need media if we just want the coach to answer the same questions that get asked every time? “A player debuted tonight, insert question 43 and 56 into the press conference.”
Ask the same questions every time, make sure the answers are the same every time. Everybody lose it when the coach mocks the question.
Seriously, let’s put aside the “but everybody asks it!” question. You watched the game and saw Pelletier play. Giving the game as a whole, was anything he did worth asking about if not to adhere to the social convention of asking the question?

Lol. This has nothing to do with boomer mentality. People are "making excuses" for Sutter because this is a preposterous thing to be talking about.
No one is taking shots at Mike. I, for one, have taken issue with his stance on this particular situation. And he's clearly able to defend himself and his opinion.
