Default Avalanche 3 Flames 1

https://www.calgarypuck.com/2023/01/...he-3-flames-1/

- Flames spot them three in the first
- Some chances in the second and third but they can't get back in it
- Markstrom settles in after a rough ride in the first 20

Agree with your comments on Stone. It’s an indictment of the depth within the organization at such a critical position. Last few games, including tonight, Flames have played some teams missing huge chunks of their blue line. And we can’t seem to plug in some people to the 6th spot.

Maybe that’s all Sutter’s fault too, but I kind of doubt it.

Their lack of depth on the back end is what really makes this a team that won't go far in the playoffs, IMO. Would likely need to pick up two d-men if OK is not coming back this year. I'd rather they just keep the team as is and retain their assets at this year's TDL.

It was 4-1 , but a good write up!

I’m confused by Sutter not accepting any responsibility for this team’s performance.

It doesn’t really matter when your starting goaltender settles in after giving up 3 first period goals. Against a playoff team, that was game over.

All of this without Makar, terrible.

Team was not engaged tonight. Was quite disappointed in their quality of play. Lost many puck battles. Many bobbled passes. Many giveaways and intercepted pass attempts. The entire game was quite weak for the flames. Worst game I've seen them play in a couple months.

I'm of the opinion that Mackey/Tanev and Zadorov/Weegar is a much better bottom two pairings than anything involving Stone.

He was a great story, but is way past his best before date.

Kylington can't come back soon enough.

I get that Stone had a nice series against the Oilers last season but ideally he should be the 7th defenseman on the team. Unfortunately the Flames haven't graduated a defenseman from their system since Andersson and Kylington who are 25 and 26 years old. That's a bit of an issue amongst many this organization has.

Last night the Avs dressed 4 defensemen who make less than a million dollars. You had some journeymen, some young guys. They certainly got the job done.

Some of the vets, Lewis, Lucic, Stone…have very little to give but Sutter keeps riding them instead of giving young guys a chance and create some competition.

Insanity….

Who is the young guy on the blueline being held back?

Lewis has lots to give, that's silly.

Lucis has been productive, but can't see that spot in the lineup lasting long.

What happened to the guy they signed to replace Gudbranson and watch tape and replicate what he did?

Lewis has been good I have no issues with him. Lucic shouldn't see the ice ever again.

I dont know, I rather rotate Gilbert, Meloche, Mackey, Desimone….rather than watching Stone making a fool of himself every night.

Lewis is useful but overused

Lucic was productive for a couple games but hey he is playing with 17M line mates , a few points are not too much to ask

I just dont get Lucic on the 2nd line. Just because hes playing better on that line doesn’t mean he should be on it.

I keep going back to we have the teams best setup guy on a line with another winger who is on pace for 8 goals this season.

If they arent going to try Pelletier there, would at least like to see Rosy up there for a bit and see how it goes.

With back to back regulation losses that might be the results needed to change it up.

Don't think anyone has ever defended Lucic as a 2nd line player. But the team was doing well, and that line was the team's most productive, and most wouldn't break up what was working; regardless of underlying numbers and sustainability.

2 losses breaks the pattern though.

The starting goaltender can't really be faulted for any of those goals.....maybe you'd hope he makes a miraculous save on one of them, but in the grand scheme of things there isn't much he could do. Is the coach supposed to say sorry for the team not executing and creating poor turnovers on the first two goals as well? I don't get it....

The laundry list of poor games after a road trip is lengthy, but I would certainly expect some lineup changes now considering this is now 2-3 games in a row that have not been up to par. This team needs to find another gear and rattle off some consecutive wins to get themselves feeling good again.
