Told you. Never know what Bianca is going to do. Glad I went to sleep in set 2.

You would think Molcan being a clay court guy would have had the stamina to last 5 sets. For the first 2.5 sets it was like he had an answer for everything Felix did and then he just faded.

Bianca did have a match point at 6-5 in the 2nd set tie-break, it just wasn't meant to be, but give credit to Bucsa, she really played some fine tennis. It's too bad though because I wanted to see Iga vs. Bianca in round 3.

I see that the Leylah - Caroline Garcia match later today has been scheduled for Rod Laver Arena. Cool.

Look at that - it worked.

I won't watch anymore this tournament lol

I don't really know what to say about her. She still has the game for the most part, but I think her mental approach is quite poor.

Even in her interview with Mark Roe the other day, the main takeaways were that she only wants positive vibes on her team (barf) and that she was welcoming the chance to play a player like Iga, which struck me as someone looking past the opponent that just beat her.

Yeah she seems to struggle with the mental aspect of the game and combined with her knee, back, and other issues it's understandable. She's taken mental breaks, mentioned she's come close to quitting, etc. Just seems like maybe he's not up to the grind of a career tennis player. I think the worst thing to happen to a young pro is to miss a lot of time due to injuries as it stunts development and maybe it's sidetracked her career path. I still think she can be a good pro if she can stay healthy but I wonder if she loves the game enough. The difference about professional team sports and individual is that in team sports players can treat their career like a job but with individual sports you really need to love what you are doing to have a long career.

I wish it was the 2nd match instead of the 3rd. Cheering for Sabalenka and Ruud beat downs.

I don't think Bianca is mentally or physically capable of being an elite player on tour. There is nothing wrong with that - it was me who hoisted great expectations on her. When she is healthy, mentally and physically, she can beat anyone. I hope she puts some more strong runs together.

It was a very strange match last night (originally delayed by about 6 hours and then multiple stops and starts during the match), several momentum swings back and forth as well. I think we have to get credit to Bucsa as well, she played very well in sets 2 and 3 and despite that fine play, Bianca roared back from 5-1 down to force a 2nd set tie-break and had a match point in that tie-break.

I also think the rapid ascendency of Bianca has skewed people's expectations (much like Emma's run to the 2021 US Open title). A lot of things have to go right to win a tennis tournament including the draw, the schedule, good fortune (not just in the match you're playing, but also with upsets during the tournament). What we're seeing now from Bianca is more the reality, her ranking is currently lower than it should be, I see her as a top 10 - 20 player who can certainly beat anyone on any given day. The biggest issue for her is staying healthy and hopefully she can compete without any time off due to injury in 2023.

Okay, now Ruud can destroy the brat Brooksby in three quick sets (I'll say 6-3 6-2 6-2)

And the qualifier Volynets pulls off the upset and is into round 3!
