Yes it does mean something.
Friedman gets a lot of talking points from agents. I wouldn't dismiss it.
Most players are big, sure. The Flames top prospects are not.

Am I really to believe Calgary not dressing a guy they recalled four days ago is big enough of a hot-button topic for Friedman to bring up unprompted in one of the leadoff spots of his big weekly column just because he feels like it?
Strikes me very much as Friedman almost verbatim repeating a message he got from an agent

My impression of things is we have a GM calling up players to inject some offence into the lineup... but we have a coach who probably has strict and final authority on lineup decisions built into his contract, and therefore is just parking these players in the pressbox until the GM relents and sends them back down.
When a GM calls up players but the coach doesn't bother dressing them, I think it's safe to say GM and coach aren't on the same page.

So, Treliving drafts a bunch of small players. Then hires a coach who hates small players. Nothing to see here.

pretty certain the players were called up because they were going out on the road and have injury concerns...I wouldn't just assume that Tre wants them in and Darryl won't do it
If they were on a homestand I doubt Pelltier would have been called up at all
TBH I hope he gets a chance and will be excited to see how it goes I just don't think this article is a big thing...its obviously a hot button topic among fans though, I bet that article got a lot of eyeballs

Not comfortable enough in the standings, or bad enough, to play Pelletier.
Duehr however, he gets the minutes. Interesting. I'll give it that.

Pelletier likely comes in and plays where Lucic is.
Duehr is playing 4th line minutes so it isn't exactly the same.

This is the problem though to be honest.
The coach believes that the 4th line needs to be just a heavy, grind line that doesn't have to provide offence and it's just a bonus if they do.
No reason the 4th line couldn't try to be a sheltered scoring line with Pelletier-Ruzicka-Lewis and Lewis being the grey beard to help with the youngers on that line.
And I only keep Lewis there because no chance the coach would pull him out, and he's actually been decent this year.

In its current makeup though the 4th line has some skill with Ruzicka down there. So a Pelletier-Lewis-Ruzicka 4th may not be a bad thing to try.

I think his press conference is a interesting listen today. Not fair to just go by that quote above he goes into deeper detail. Make your own conclusion.

Granted it wasn't Sutter, but similar to the Maginpane-Ryan-Hathaway 4th line. A vet with a couple kids.

Was Pelletier-Ruzicka-Duehr ever a thing in the AHL? Or any combo of those? I actually don't see a vet-less line being employed or even smart, though. Lewis is just too good on the 4th line to waste.

He makes it pretty clear size is always going to be an issue for it seems like anyone in the AHL because we have smaller players. A subtle shot at Matthew Phillips as well in terms of players maxing out already.
Continuing to talk about size size size when there are many players of Pelletier stature in the NHL does not help things, especially when you have a prospect like Coronato that we need to sign.

First of all, Pelletier isn't small. He's the exact size profile as Mangiapane, Dube, Coleman who are all very effective NHLers and leaned on heavily by this coach.
Maybe he's a little smaller weight-wise, but that will come just like it did for the other three. Secondly, not many coaches would tinker with a lineup when the team was going like it was. I suspect if the team drops another one or doesn't look good against the Avs, Pelletier will draw in right quick.

Did you guys even listen to what he said? He was talking about strength and says he likes him and thinks he can get there because he is only 21
sometimes I think people hear what they want to be outraged by

Interesting video... sounds like he takes a bit of a shot at Phillips' size in the part where they were asking about Pelletier. Saying basically that Pelts is still 21 and can grow more into his frame, gain weight and strength etc, meanwhile 'other players' who are older may already be maxed out.
Edit: beaten by a few posters

He said "issue with him is always going to be his size".
If he just said "he needs to get stronger" then I think people would have been fine with that. But size insinuates a different issue.
Issue is 5'10" is perfectly fine for an NHLer, hell I'm pretty sure Darryl himself is 5'10" and he was an NHLer as a 21 year old.

I think it would be incredibly odd if Treliving and Sutter are not having discussions several times per week about the roster and who might be a fit for a call up. Making assumptions that Darryl has some bizarre stranglehold on the roster doesn't even remotely add up.
The GM isn't just calling up players on a whim here. Sutter would have obviously endorsed the move, or possibly requested the call up himself.

There’s nothing wrong with not playing him yet. He’s practicing with the big boys and learning absorbing so much just by being up. He’ll get his opportunity, no rush.
