Maybe every sports writer at the time was actually right... When a Matthew Tkachuk becomes available and wants to sign with you for 8 years, you make whatever trade you need to make to get it done.

Maybe he just wasn't very good at it, and that is not unusual. Better not to say things when you have mixed feelings but wait until your mind and thoughts are clear. He is being very genuine and he's telling the city exactly how he feels about them and that it was very difficult decision; And we should believe him and leave it at that and be happy for him. There are a lot of people on this forum thinking Johnny should be acting a certain way while they get a free pass. We are all passionate fans, Johnny is a passionate hockey player, who often gave it his best night in the night out and carried the team on his back.
There maybe other reasons Johnny didn't speak his mind sooner and we have to respect that. Personally I hope he gets a standing ovation and nothing less until the game starts.

Most of the differentials suggest they are spending more time in their own zone than they did last year.

I forget who posted it on Twitter but the Coles notes of an article someone posted was Florida is playing essentially the same system but they aren't recovering when turnovers happen like last year which tends to correlate with the overall quality of their blueline.

Uh, he did speak after leaving and it didn't go very well....that's why I suggested he is getting better advice now.

I'll forgive the dweeb if he donates $100k to the children's hospital as the something special for Flames fans. Not some stupid 1 page thankyou article not written by him in the newspaper.

Forgive him for what? Did he do something to you or owe you money or something?

He made Flames hockey super boring this year. So he owes me about 70 hours this year....

Ah poor Mony. That just sucks. Was hoping he’d stay healthy and be able to get things back on track.

At least he got some really good money. Hopefully he was smart and he can retire from hockey and move on

Like Monahan the person but he doesn't have a particularly good track record when it comes to (i) staying healthy, and (ii) shutting things down to get healthy when he gets injured.
He was already in a walking boot when he played us on December 1; if the Habs were hoping to flip him for assets at the deadline they better hope he gets healthy soon. I'm really curious where he goes after this year -- does he possibly reunite with Johnny in Columbus?

Damn. I thought this would be a healthier season for him. I just hope the guy is able to live a normal life outside of hockey when his career is over. Johnny talking about how he used to always be struggling walking when they hung out was sad to hear

At this point injury prone isn't the right word. He is hurt, probably for life, and keeps playing. Tough as nails.

My gut is telling me he's going to sign with one of Ottawa or Toronto on a much cheaper, bonus-forward one-year contract.
I still wouldn't rule out him resigning here either with Lucic and Lewis potentially moving on next year. if he could be had cheap enough, he could add some veteran leadership and faceoff specialization in protected minutes on the lower lines.
That's probably me dreaming out loud though.

Really sucks for Monahan as earlier in the season he was setting himself up for a multiyear contract from a team and now you have to wonder if he's going to get the year to year contract treatment or multi year on a low dollar contract offers in the offseason.

He does keep playing, but the boot earlier was obviously not the same injury. The current one is "lower body" so it could be the leg, the hips again, or something else.

He seemed to be doing fairly well when he was back in.
I’m guessing he is done. Or if someone does resign him it’ll be for very low $$$.
Too bad. But he wouldn’t be the first player who has experienced this.
